Incredible Hulks #635 - Heart Of The Monster, Part Six & Conclusion: Hulk Out

4

Greg Pak's run on Incredible Hulk sadly comes to an end as his Heart of the Monster storyline comes to an end.

Can the Incredible Hulks beat Fin Fang Foom and Tyrannus? What other special features will we get out of this issue?

The Good

I almost feel like I'm about to give a eulogy for a friend that's recently passed. I know the series isn't ending, but with Greg Pak moving on to bigger and better things, the book is going to be a bit different from now on obviously. The last issue ties everything up very well, and we get a great, heart-string pulling ending. While I enjoyed the story, I really loved the back up called "Hulk out." It again wraps up a few things, and let's the reader know that this run has come to an end, but the characters we know and love, including the few that were created during this run, are still around.

What I liked most about this issue was the little extras we got. Greg Pak wrote an afterword thanking everyone, and after that is a five page interview where Greg talks about his experience working on the book, and a few other writers tell us what they love about Pak's run.

The Bad

Heart of the Monster was not my favorite storyline from Pak's run on the series. I just wasn't the biggest fan of the storyline and the wishing well idea. That being said, it was a good plot device to fix a few things, which I won't reveal here... No spoilers!

The Verdict

Is it weird to say that the interview alone is worth the $3.99 price tag? This issue is a great wrap-up to an amazing 5 year run on Incredible Hulk. The storyline itself was just ok for me, but the ending is what really made this a great issue. The elements Pak has created over the years are still in play. No "reset" button was hit so a new writer could have their way with the Hulk-iverse, but enough was wrapped-up where the reader doesn't have lingering questions. I highly recommend this issue.
