Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #24 - City Fall Part Three

5

Part 3 of 'City Fall!' The Turtles and Splinter team-up with Old Hob and Slash in an attempt to save Leonardo, but will Casey Jones survive his severe injury?

*This issue was available digitally but has since been taken down because it's not available in stores yet. It will be officially released on 7/31*

The Good

What's good in this issue? Well, EVERYTHING. First and foremost, Tom Waltz, Bobby Curnow and Kevin Eastman do a tremendous job balancing everything this story is bringing to the table and proper focus is given to every major development. We finally get a massive update with Casey Jones, Shredder unveils more of his master plan and we get to witness more of the Turtles and Splinter hesitantly working with Old Hob and Slash.

The pacing is excellent and there are some seriously exciting scenes thrown into the mix. This issue has some really big moments and a beyond epic fight scene. One particular moment is predictable, but that doesn't stop it from being super exciting and filled me with anticipation. I have no shame in saying one moment made me cheer out loud with crazy enthusiasm and there's even a hilarious scene which is apparently inspired by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (no, it's not a Vanilla Ice cameo, silly).

Man, artist Mateus Santolouco can do no wrong. The guy once again provides excellent work for our eyes, making each character look unique -- the dude does an especially excellent job with Slash. As for the action, it's nothing short of glorious. His illustrations create some truly animiated battles, granting each strike a lot of speed and their impacts are fierce. Throw in Ronda Pattison's colors and the end result is an extraordinarily good looking comic which is totally worthy of this great story.

The Bad

The bad? But there was nothing bad in this issue!

The Verdict

It's no secret I've been digging this series, but this issue really is something special. Call me crazy, but it doesn't feel like reading a comic -- it feels like watching a really fun movie. The combination of cinematic art, solid pacing, strong reveals and a tight script turns TMNT #24 into one of the most engaging and best issues from the series. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go read it again and when you're able to, I strongly recommend you read it as well. And by "strongly recommend" I mean you really, really, really should if you're even kind of a fan of the Turtles.

Heh, yeah, I usually hit up ComiXology very shortly after waking up. Well, if you're enjoying City Fall, I can pretty much guarantee it'll be worth the wait.

Wow, I feel really fortunate to have read it! Definitely my favorite series out there and this issue proved why. Loving Dark Leo already, I cannot wait to see him drop some bodies!

oh okay. I saw your review and I was pissed because I couldn't find it yesterday at my LCS. Now it makes sense.

I have the Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go! line from that song as the notification tone on my phone

yeah this issue was nothing short of amazing....It saddens me that more people aren't talking about this series on here....with all the people who do nothing but complain about the big 2 you would think that they would be reading some things from other publishers and as much love as this series gets in the reviews then you would also think that they would give it a try

Based on your avatar, it's safe to assume you loved the fight?

I sure did! though I've got to say that it wasn't quite as epic as I was hoping....I'm hoping for something huge like right out in the middle of the city by the end of City Fall....I love Dark Leo though...the design is just epic

Wow... I just read the issue (got it early from somewhere). Absolutely perfect. 6 stars if that could be possible. The emotion, the action, the art, this book is blowing me away more and more with every issue.

I wish more people picked this up, I hope it never ends, and I can't wait for next month.

History of the foot was amazing , and I can honestly say this is the best ongoing monthly in comics hands down. Shame on you if this is not on your sub list.

What an amazing issue. This capatilised on the epic story, threw in a dash of levity, some shocking plot twists, an epic fight scene and strong characterisation. The best issue so far and of July for my pull list. Great review Gregg!
