Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #10

5

Shredder puts Splinter to the test, and their history is revealed.

The Good

Yet another month of me telling you how awesome this book is. If you like awesome comics, you'll like this book, and you do not need to be a TMNT fan per se.

First thing is first, I love the new Shredder design. He's incredibly intimidating and powerful, the way Shredder should be. He doesn't say much, but he doesn't have to. This is really the first time we see the character as a leader. He works extremely well on the page.

While the Turtles, April, and Casey settle into some new digs, Splinter fights for his life. We learn how deep Splinter's convictions run and just how tough of a fighter he is. There's a fantastic fight scene earlier in the issue where we get to see the thought process as Splinter fights one of Shredder's men. This scene works out incredibly well and the mixture of internal monologue and action are perfect. Writer Tom Waltz is fantastic throughout the whole issue, but especially during this fight scene.

Although it was established much earlier on in the series, I really enjoy the relationship between Casey and Raphael. We get a bit more of that, as the guys head into April's parent's store, which has been closed for years.

As always, Dan Duncan's art and Ronda Pattison's colors truly stand out and make this an amazing book, especially during the fight scenes mentioned earlier.

The Bad

It's a bit slow at parts, like the scenes with April and the Turtles heading to her parent's old store but that's about it. Why would her parents keep paying for electricity and water on a place they don't use anymore?

The Verdict

This book continues to be a 5 out of 5 for me, and if you're not reading it, you get a 0 out of 5 for missing out on an amazing comic series. This book is not the TMNT you remember. It's better. This issue contains some amazing art and some great fight scenes between Splinter and one of Shredder's men. The Shredder redesign is great and he finally feels like a leader of a clan, and a man not to be messed with.

Overall, this is a fantastic series, and I really enjoyed this issue. Just go out and get it already.

Ok Shredder's new mask is cool, but i'd have preferred the metal mask over his mouth. If he doesn't talk as much, i guess that just makes him even more badass. Original Shredder weren't much anyway, dying in the first issue itself

I love this book, but it does burn my butt that they have the individual turtle titles that tie into this storyline. I don't like being forced to read books outside of the book I'm reading to explain main plots through subplots. Crappy marketing decision by IDW there.

it's only 4 books and while they do tie in to the main book, reading them isn't absolutely necessary....you'll get the gist of what happened in them just by reading the main series

I need to turn this cover into a poster. As for the issue, yet another solid entry. It's disappointing that so many "fans" cry out over Bay producing the movie yet it's nothing but crickets when people try to discuss the comic. Oh well. I gave it a 4/5 in my review.

I enjoyed this issue! I enjoyed seeing some elements from the first TMNT movie such as the Turtles loosing their home and moving into April's old pawn shop and that Shredder recognized Splinter! Was not expecting that!

Glad to hear how good this book is. The price is rather steep but I'll keep my eyes peeled for the trade. IDW has really been doing a good job of keeping the TMNT legacy alive through this series and the hardbacks of the old series.
