Hyperion has been discovered to be hiding on Earth. The secret is out and now Dr. Spectrum is finding it harder and harder to control his power crystal.
The Good
It's hard to believe that J. Michael Straczynski gave us his version of Hyperion back in 2003. The story told of an alien who had become the most powerful person on Earth and his struggle to be a hero. Gary Frank's art made the miniseries something that I'd always remember. With the success of the mini, we soon had other ones follow and it started getting to be too much for me. The later series didn't have the same feel and I just wasn't as excited. I soon lost track of what happened to the various other characters. Now Kyle Higgins has taken over and it feels like I'm stepping into a pair of familiar shoes. The first issue and this one have made me realize that I missed that original mini. I'm really tempted to try to find my copies but unfortunately I have no cataloging system. Higgins is giving us the story where Hyperion apparently left Earth after the destruction he caused and Dr. Spectrum stepped up to become Earth's #1 hero...or at least America's. Last issue it was discovered that Hyperion was actually in hiding on Earth and Dr. Spectrum has discovered his power crystal, that came from Hyperion's ship, is starting to act on its own. It's even taking over control of his body.
