Star Wars: Blood Ties - Boba Fett is Dead #2

5

Who's been hunting down Boba Fett's assassins? The secret is revealed this issue.

The Good

This was a great issue. It really surpassed the first issue in awesomeness. After the events of issue one, Connor is in a bacta tank with an arm blown off and a stormtrooper takes him away. Spoiler time: The storm trooper reveals himself and it's Boba Fett. He explains what happened and that Connor is now technically a dead man. Boba takes Connor to the Mid Rim so he can "protect" the bounty hunter Sintas Vel, who is on that planet.

I am really digging on this story. Sure, the main story of the assassins being hunted down is a tad predictable, yet incredibly solid, but the other side of the story featuring Connor is really cool and I love the direction it's going in.

The ending scene, featuring the stormtrooper flying into Blackfel is really cool. It's an action packed ending that shows how tough this character is.

The art stands above everything else in this book as the best thing in this issue. Chris Scalf does a fabulous job of telling this story. It's realistic and dynamic. The colors really drive this home. It's some beautiful artwork and worth the price of admission alone.

The Bad

My only problem is that the stormtrooper's back story feels a bit forced. It's interesting, no doubt, but it comes off as a tad cheesy.

The Verdict

I'm loving this mini-series. It's been my first dive into Star Wars comics, and I couldn't think of a better way to dive right in. I loved finding out who the Stormtrooper is and his connection with Connor. There were a couple of really cool scenes here, including the history behind the Stormtrooper and the flight into Blackfel. Also, the art by Chris Scalf is amazing.

On the downside, while I did think the scene itself featuring the history of the Stormtrooper was cool, it felt a bit forced.

Overall, I love this book, and you should do yourself a favor and pick this one up. I highly recommend Star Wars: Blood Ties-Boba Fett is Dead 2.

I almost picked that up yesterday. I'll keep that in mind next time I'm at the store

The Crimson Empire books are also pretty good, since they're all about they are about the only characters to be as popular as Fett despite doing absolutely nothing in the movies, the Emperor's red garbed royal guards.
