The Good

It's never easy deciding whether or not to jump into a brand new comic series. Most of us have pull lists that are already overflowing. When you have a new series with a brand new setting and characters, it helps when you have a known quantity in the mix. Brian Buccellato is no stranger to comic fans with his co-writing work on THE FLASH and DETECTIVE COMICS. He's also ventured off on his own on several projects such as FOSTER and INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US.

Starting off with a flashback, Toni Infante's art immediately takes us to a dark beginning. If you're trying to sell readers on a new series, you have to grab their attention right away. The first couple pages absolutely do that. Then we meet Travis Crowe. He's understandably not in a good place. It's almost as if he's on the same page as us as we wait for the complete backstory to unfold.

Despite the mood set in the beginning, you're not quite sure what to expect. Buccellato and Infante slowly peel away the layers of the story. We get to see where Travis is and get a good sense of what his life is like. We start to see there is much more going on in the bigger picture which is starting to come into focus. Knowing there are dark things around the corner with Travis unaware keeps readers on edge. The more you get to know Travis, the more you feel for him. He may come across as a bit of an ass in the beginning but it's clear he has issues and needs to know more about his past.

The Bad

There really isn't anything bad. You'll want to know more about the overall story and how it's all connected.

The Verdict

I first had the chance to read this a few months ago. Since then, I have read it a couple more times. It's an intriguing introduction that has me hooked to the overall story. Visually stunning. An insightful, yet horrific look into cults and the bonds that connect family. We're just getting a glimpse into the overall story. Brian Buccellato and Toni Infante have created an intriguing new world. You'll hang onto every word and Infante's art pulls you into the story. Simply put, I want more. You will as well.
