John Prophet emerges onto the surface of a futuristic Earth where an alien species feeds on humans.
The Good
Science fiction awesomeness! This book is out there, and I love it. It is an utterly confusing story, but as the issue plays out, it becomes more and more clear what is going on. I guess it's a continuation of the old Prophet volumes, which I've never read, but new readers will not have a problem with connecting the dots or understanding the bigger picture because everything is explained pretty well by the end of the issue.
This is a really cool adventure story. No super-heroes here. A man, who slept too long in cryo, has to find out his mission by traveling across this new world, which is actually Earth.
You'll start to notice the really unique character and landscape design within this issue. It's a very imaginative book. Essentially, this is a science fiction comic done right.
The Bad
The worst part of this book was being completely confused about it being issue 21 and realizing this continues from a series that was cancelled years ago. Why not just make it a new volume and call it issue #1?
The art can get pretty muddled at times and its hard for the reader to not only understand what they're looking at, but where they should be looking. It maybe the colorist problem more than anything else, but in some panels, it just becomes confusing with what you're looking at.
The Verdict
I loved this book. I may have never read a Prophet book before, but I feel like I didn't need to. This is the coolest science-fiction comic I've read in a long time, and I loved the story and the design of the book. I was confused about why this series starts on issue 21 and not #1, and the colors of the book sometimes became muddled and it was hard to know what I was looking at. I highly recommend this story.
