Old Man Logan #2

4

Logan breaches the wall that contains the domain he resides in. What's on the other side?

The Good

I'll admit while I enjoyed the first issue, the recent "All-New, All-Different Marvel" news has me looking at this series in a new light. The inclusion of Old Man Logan in those character designs really makes you wonder what that might mean for this series.

Picking up from the first issue, Logan makes his way to the wall at the edge of his domain. What appears to be different from some of the other domains is he has no idea he is on Battleworld. Breaching the wall, he is confronted by a member of the Thor Corps. They act as the law enforcement throughout the different domains. Logan is oblivious to this concept and is not prepared for what lies on the other side.

Brian Michael Bendis makes this an interesting change to the Secret Wars tie-in books formula. We're getting a mix of a true continuation from the original OLD MAN LOGAN mixed with the crossover interactions from the Secret Wars books.

There's no denying how much I loved Steve McNiven's art in the original story. As much as I love Andrea Sorrentino's art, I thought it'd be hard to get used to his amazing style in this world. Two issues in and my concerns have been squashed. There is a great and mysterious feel added to the story and Marcelo Maiolo's colors takes it to another level. You can feel the tension and confusion going through Logan's mind.

The Bad

While the idea of Logan venturing into another domain and meeting other versions of characters is interesting, it's a slightly hard pill to swallow. We're being treated to a "continuation" of the characters, something many of us would love to see. Mixing it with other worlds takes away from that.

The Verdict

The story of Old Man Logan continues. This isn't your typical Secret Wars tie-in book. In others, the characters seem fully aware of where they are in terms of Battleworld and the bigger story. That isn't the case for Logan and makes him venturing into another domain more interesting. Bendis is keeping us on the edge of our seats and Sorrentino and Maiolo's art and colors are phenomenal. Old Man Logan is definitely going to have his hands full. This will not be a vacation for him. With the changes happening to the Marvel Universe after SECRET WARS, this could be a very important book to keep an eye on.
