Justice League #3 - Justice League, Part Three

4

It's time for Wonder Woman to meet the other heroes. Will they fight each other or together against a deadly threat attacking around the world? Also, there's ice cream.

The team is finally coming together as Wonder Woman gets in on the action. Will it be enough to turn the tide against the enemy?

The Good

Every issue we get to see the heroes for the first time. We've seen Wonder Woman in her own title but didn't get a real sense of what her past was like. Here we get to see her interact with the people and the other heroes for the first time. We've already seen what Batman and Green Lantern's first encounter was like and when they first met Superman. It's also great looking at the background to see if there are any other familiar characters quietly being introduced.

Of course one of the big sells (at least for me) is seeing Jim Lee's art. His absence has long been felt and each issue is another round of joy seeing the way he draws everyone. It should also be said that Scott Williams' inks and the colors here are amazing as well. Everything looks so good, very crisp and clean. But when the attacks begin, the action amps up and soon we're seeing why the Justice League will be needed. We know Darkseid is coming and the bits seen to move the story forward are almost chilling.

The issue also covers a lot of territory. We don't get just a single fight in one place. We get to travel to different parts of the DC Universe. And our final destination here is bound to make fans happy.

The Bad

Part of the fun is seeing how the team gets pulled together. Maybe I'm being impatient but I'm ready for the big showdown. We've been seeing the heroes fight parademons but it's just drone after drone. Darkseid is coming and we've seen an image of what he'll look like but I'm ready to the main event.

There was also an nice scene with Wonder Woman and ice cream but it didn't have to go on for two pages. Especially when we only have 22 pages of story. There are some supplemental features in the back but that's seven pages that could have been used for other things (which will happen in future issues with a Shazam back up).

The Verdict

JUSTICE LEAGUE continues to deliver the epic introduction of the team. Geoff Johns and Jim Lee are the dream team and it's great seeing the two of them introduce us to this new DC Universe. Johns is crafting out who the characters are and establishing what their relationships will be like while Lee beautifully (and gracefully) depicts all the action. I might be a little impatient and while it's understandable that this is still setting everything up, I'm ready for the big action (or maybe I should say bigger action). The Justice League fighting a horde of parademons is fun to see but we all want to see them go up against Darkseid. Johns and Lee are almost teasing us with the suspense and spectacular scenes. It's pretty safe to say that it's all going to hit the fan next issue in terms of action. Let's hope Johns and Lee are on board for the long haul.
