Invincible #94

4

The Flaxans have invaded Earth, and Earth needs all the help it can get! Monster Girl and Robot's secret history is revealed.

The Good

The Monster Girl and Robot back story, as they live their lives in the Flaxian Dimension was by far the best part of this story. I loved seeing these two characters and how lived their lives during a time of war and how they're personal relationship grew stronger.

During the actual fight scenes of this issue, I found myself really enjoying how far the character of Robot has come since his inception. I love how he can control multiple drones at the same time. He's become more powerful and important than I ever imagined.

This issue really ends on a big reveal that changes the course of the whole story line and the war on Earth. It's a great build-up to the reveal, and while I don't think this story is one of the strongest in the Invincible universe, this reveal gets me very excited for the next issue.

As always, Ryan Ottley's art work is amazing. While his action sequences are always top notch, we get to see a lot more facial expressions and emotions in this issue as characters talk to each other. The last panel of the last page is a great example of body language and facial expressions telling the entire story.

The Bad

My main problem with this whole invasion story is that I'm just not really digging it. I mainly feel the same frustration Mark feels here. I want Mark to get into the fight, but he can't. I want to see him return to action, but he's not there. I know the whole story doesn't have Mark in it for a reason, but I really want to see him.

Here's the weirder part, I found the Monster Girl/Robot part of this issue so much more interesting than the actual Flaxan/Earth battle. Obviously, when you have dual storytelling like this, one side is going to outweigh the other, but I felt the two stories didn't work together as well as they could have.

The Verdict

Invincible 94 is a very good issue. It has a great ending, and the Robot and Monster Girl story in the Flaxian Dimension is fantastic. Ryan Ottley does a fantastic job with art, as always, and the reveal page was awesome.

On the downside, I didn't like the fact there were two different artists on this issue, even though Cory Walker's art was awesome. It was a tad distracting. Also, I felt Robot and Monster Girl's story about what happened on the Flaxian dimension a lot more interesting than the main story on Earth.

Overall, I recommend this issue and as always, I highly recommend this series. I love it.
