Infestation 2: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #2 - 2 of 2

4

The team has been split up after a fight. How will they defeat this new enemy?

Recently, I reviewed the first issue of this two-part series, and I get it a 5 out of 5 in my review. The second issue keeps pushing forward. Will the turtles figure out how to stop this menace?

The Good

Mike Torres (art) and Jay Fotos (colors) are the first reason I picked this issue up again, and the second was that this book is simply awesome. As I stated in my last review, it reminds me a lot of Mike Mignola's art, and it really pops off the page at you.

Page 13 is a prime example of their awesomeness. It features the secondary baddie, a skeletal-humanoid in a purple cloak floating above Donatello and Raphael. It takes up half of the page, and the shadowing on this creature (whose name I couldn't find) is fantastic. It's a very simple panel with two characters looking at another, but it says so much about each character, their emotion and where this other character stands in the battle of good vs. evil. This is a book you'd buy just for the art, and you get a sweet awesome prize of great writing as well.

I love that this issue has a great sense of humor to it. Nothing says great comedy like Michelangelo holding two sticks of dynamite. There is also some other great pieces of dialogue between the characters within the issue, but at no time will you feel it gets too talky. The dialogue explains what needs to be explained at that's it. Tristan Jones (writer), Mike Torres, and Jay Fotos all really compliment each other, and I'd love to see an on-going TMNT book with this creative team on it.

The Bad

It's really hard to tell what's going on in page 8. Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello are swimming and there's something grabbing them, and the whole page, no pun intended, is a bit wishy-washy. Nothing is clear. It's just all jumbled.

I also started to have the same problem I noticed while reading Infestation 2: G.I. Joe 1. It's a very formulaic book, and after reading all of the two-parters, thus far, I feel like I'm a couple steps ahead because I know what's going to happen.

The Verdict

Best Infestation 2 tie-in story. Both issues were so much fun, and it is definitely a two-parter you should pick up. I love the artwork of Mike Torres and Jay Fotos. They have great style, form, and the art really catches your attention. The writing is also top notch and it has a great sense of humor to it throughout the issue.

The only problems I had with issue 2 was that page 8 had so much going on in it that it was tough to see what was actually going on, and aside from that, the book follows the same formula as the other Infestation books, so you know what's coming when you read it, if you've been following the rest of the series.

Overall, I highly recommend this issue and this mini-story. It was highly entertaining and by far, the best of the Infestation tie ins.
