Hellboy: The Fury #3

5

The final part of one the best recent Hellboy stories. You may have heard what happens here but seeing is believing. The entire story has been top notch with great art. This is an issue you won't want to miss out on.

Hellboy stories are always a blast to read. From the beginning, The Fury has felt like something different. With the way it ends, it's clearly a story that won't soon be forgotten.

The Good

I've been reading Hellboy pretty much since the beginning. This story feels like it got amped up on something. Right from the first issue with the ties to King Arthur, Nimue and Baba Yaga, we were in for a completely different game. There is such an epic battle that it's clear the entire world of Hellboy will be changed. We're talking mass destruction here. You may have seen Hellboy involved in big fights before but this is the one that truly matters.

Simply put, Mike Mignola and Duncan Fegredo are on fire. I haven't read up on the inspiration behind this story but I feel it's something that Mignola has been planning for a while. Past arcs have been great but none have had the intensity and scope that this has. Fegredo's art with Dave Stewart's colors are amazing. We're treated to some panels/pages with very little dialogue and you will want to take a moment to just take it all in.

The Bad

Do people enjoy the mass destruction stories? You almost feel bad but it was such a great story. The absolute worst part is having to wait to see what happens next.

The Verdict

If you've ever read a Hellboy comic or even watched either movies, you have to read this arc. This is big stuff in the world of Hellboy and you won't want to miss out. Past story arcs have been great but this is at a completely different level. WIth a feeling that it's been in the works for a while, this story absolutely changes things. Mignola's writing is top notch and you have to see Fegredo's art complimented by Stewart's colors. After reading it, I had to read it again. I can't remember the last time I felt so much over a Hellboy story. Bravo to all involved.
