Hawkeye #3 - Cherry Review

5

Hawkguy is in more trouble, bro!

The Good

Clint Barton's latest run is simply phenomenal.  Matt Fraction's writing is beyond top-notch and David Aja's pencils & Matt Hollingsworth's colors provide the perfect look for Hawkeye's hilarious and dirty street level world.

You need to see a doctor ASAP if you don't have a smirk plastered across your face while reading this issue.  The Clint and Kate dynamic continues to tip-toe an awkwardly hysterical line ("back in a sex") and the dialogue when she picks him up in the car is sure to give you a solid laugh.  Even something as mundane as purchasing tape proves to be an amusing experience thanks to the extremely sharp writing.  Then there's the trick arrows.  It's no secret the classic era has made some really silly ones and Fraction has no hesitation having fun with the assortment of equipment at Clint's disposal.

While the bro usage is excessive, it's still every bit as comical as the first issue, especially while surrounded by such a stereotypical and strong accent ("Beeg mistake, bro.").  If you ask me, that's a remarkable feat.  Something used that much should be obnoxiously repetitive, but Fraction manages to dodge that bullet and make me love the word every time it's used.

If I could only use one word to describe this series, it would be "enthralling."  Go read it.  Because boomerangs.  Oh, and I better see an overwhelming demand for G-Man to include "best use of a censor" in this week's "The Best Stuff in Comics!"

The Bad

No major complaints to be had, bro.

The Verdict

HAWKEYE has officially cemented itself as Marvel's must read book for me.  It's beautiful, hilarious and captivating.  Matt Fraction has struck gold with Clint Barton and I can't wait to see what else he has in store for the Avenger.

The more I read these, the more I love Clint's character. I wonder how Kingpin and them will retaliate from Clint and Kate's loot from #2. Should be a lot of fun.

Can't wait to get my copy tomorrow, bro!

This is the best single issue of a comic that I have read in a long time. It has a great pace and the book is actually pretty funny. The 'censor' scene was hilarious. This is the only Marvel book other than Winter Soldier that I get excited for now.

Good review bro.

This book is too awesome, it's the new Mark Waid's Daredevil and marvels best book in print curently. For me it joins the ranks of Scott Snyders Batman and Saga for best books currently being printed.

I think this was my favorite book this week. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The pacing and dialogue in this title are second to none. The track suit Draculas as they are referred to by Clint were significantly less irritating this time around. I can't wait to see someone cosplay as a bare ass Hawkeye.

I love this series so much. It has really made me love Kate and Hawkeye's misadventures are alot more fun to read about than the majority of Marvel's titles. I will admit I'm sick of regular dudes taking him out though.

I loved this issue!

This title is awesome! i like that that the past 3 stories have been self contained but now im ready for an actual Arc to begin! Don't get me wrong i love one-shot stories but id also like to see a longer story go on in this book adding new elements, characters etc.

great issue tho 4/5!

Also someone help me out with Kate Bishop, im not too familiar with her, but How old is she supposed to be? issue 2 hints 9 but it sounds sarcastic and she seems like 19 but with a childish attitude......anyone know how old she is? im confused

F@#$ing Track Suit Draculas! Someone needs to set up a Comic Vine page on those guys...

@judasnixon: Or maybe another twitter account Bro! 'course nothing tops the mighty Pizza Dog tweets.

Gregg- Yup! I tweeted Tony about the best censor of the week this morning. :-)

You know when I was watching the Avengers, I really thought that Hawkeye was the one that least needed his own movie, but I'd love to see Renner act out a movie adaptation of this series! It would be awesome.

I agree 100% with the review. Hawkeye has become one of the main titles I look forward to most every month.

These first few issues have been so great :) Lets hope it keeps going strong.

Very good review, but i don't like the book. The art is great, I did chuckle at the censor bit, but other than that, i'm given no reason to like Clint whatsoever. He seems to get himself in trouble for the sake of it, which is just stupidity, not clever or heroic.

@sparty-dbq: kate is not his girlfriend. she's like 18 she is something like his apprentice

This issue was simply amazing. The dialogue, the art, the humour. Fraction blended everything perfectly to create an near perfect comic. This is easily my new favourite series.

I like review bro, keep up!

@Ramier: I believe Spider-Women is his girlfriend at the moment.

4.0/5.0 for me. I didn't like it when they knocked out Clint ,they could of easily killed him and they tried to at the end bro! Other than that it was good issue. I guess spider-girl won't be to happy bro? The redhead is black widow sister right ? Too similar for my taste bro.

Now I thought the solicits said something about the vagabond code and plot. Hell not that I can complain that issue was phenomenally funny.

Hawkeye is my favorite series out right now it is absolutely wonderful, and the covers are spectacular. Also I got the feeling that this series kinda stands alone from the rest of the universe and Spider Woman isn't involved I could be wrong though.

Everybody should be reading this bro. Vastly underrated

@Shamelesslysupportinaznballers: oh yeah i totally forgot about her. I wonder would we see this play into the marvel universe as a whole

God I love this Hawkeye. I didn't like however Clint keeps getting his a$$ handed to him every book. This man was trained by Captain America not to become so depend on his bow. He was also asked to wear the uniform when Captain America died. He was Ronin for crying out loud. We get it, he's a normal man but I hate him being at the mercy of his enemies nearly every issue. CW's Arrow would give Clint a run for his money in hand to hand, hand and bow combat.

This was an awesome issue! The whole series, so far, has been quite awesome actually! I have a feeling this how the Marvel NOW! series are going to be like

Posted by feargalr

Best issue so far easily, one of the best things coming out of marvel at the moment. It's also making me less nervous about Fraction taking over from Hickman on F4 and FF.

Yes, I'm really looking forward to seeing that group of villains return to this title.
