Green Lantern #67 - War of the Green Lanterns, Part Ten Review

5

Event comics often fail to contain any major repercussions at the end. That is not the case with the conclusion to War of the Green Lanterns. This is one conclusion issue that literally changes everything you know about Green Lantern. Everything is now making sense as to what we will see in the months to come.

There was some confusion as to what how the War of the Green Lanterns was supposed to end. This issue marks the epic conclusion that is not to be missed. Things are changing big time.

The Good

War of the Green Lanterns has been filled with big battles and twists left and right. With all the chapters, I've enjoyed the ones that took place in this series, which isn't really a surprise. Geoff Johns was clearly guiding the arc along and all the major events tended to occur in the chapters falling in the actual "Green Lantern" title. Throw in the fact that Doug Mahnke has been consistently killing with the art. Gabe Eltaeb and Randy Mayor should be commended on all the color they had to add as well.

Trying to avoid the major spoilers in this issue, there are some major changes. In seeing the final confrontation with Krona, you can't help but wonder if he has a point. Is his argument valid? Are the Guardians right with all the cold emotionless decisions they've made? With all the power Krona has amassed, how can he be defeated?

Try to read this issue before you hear about the spoilers. Even if you have an idea like I did prior to reading, you will be knocked off your feet. There are some big changes that happen. Some may say they've seen them coming but what makes a difference is actually seeing these events happen. It's simply crazy to see.

The Bad

I did love this issue. Was there anything bad? We sometimes see big changes happen just for the sake of shock. That may be partly the case here. What happens is a shock. Will it last forever? Probably not. But that doesn't really matter. I love what is happening here. There is huge potential to really shake things up. I'm okay with change and knowing that someday things should return to the status quo. Who wants the same old stories over and over. In other words, there really isn't anything bad about this. Just wait and see where it goes.

The Verdict

Things will never be the same. We hear that a lot, especially with event stories. The recent issue of Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors may have caused confusion as that should have been released after this issue but based on what happens here, I can totally overlook that shipping goof. War of the Green Lanterns was an enjoyable arc. It did have some low points but overall I dug it. The conclusion here went above and beyond what I was expecting. At the end of the day, that's what is most important. This issue is setting up major changes for the future of Green Lantern and I haven't been more excited. Bravo to everyone involved with this issue and the decision made.

I loved the conclusion to this run, but I kind of really hate the Guardians now.

Well, they have been more or less the problem since Johns started writing Green Lantern. I wish they hadn't survived this event, I was honestly hoping that.

That said, this book felt like a summer block buster, very easy fun, this event has been great all around, guess I couldn't ask for much more to close this volume of Green Lantern out, with a bang. Mahnke's art in this was also on point. The end was the best part, I saw what happened to Hal coming, as it seemed clear for a good while that was the only possible outcome, but Sinestro getting his green ring back, awesome. Sign me up for Green Lantern in September.

Sinestro didnt get his ring back........he got Hal's.....wich is why i wont be reading gl post reboot.

if it had been kyle starring or even Guy i would hve been on board but Sinestro of all freaking people is just a the addition of insult to injury for me.......but im glad that your excited about it and i didnt mean to dump my drama on you lol

Well that's actually a twist that will make me pick up at least the first few issues, just when i was thinking about stop reading any and all DC comics after the reboot...

Guardians are stupid and just made me hate them even more after this issue. Looks like Sinestro gets his own book.

You all made want read this book more, but I can't believe Sinestro going Green again, I can't wait for September

wow i hate the guardians even more now(except for ganthet because he atleast isnt an emotionless twat) but it is going be interesting to see how members of the corps are going interact with sinestro now that he's a member again

If you actually think "Nothing will ever be the same" you obviously haven't been reading comics for the last 50+ years. There is NO change that can't and won't be retconned and this is no exception.
Sure, it will make for an interesting story or two but you're deluding yourself if you think there won't be a return to the status quo.

@Avenging-X-Bolt: It's just a plot point to move the story in a different direction. Hal is practically addicted to his ring. This was shown a bit ago. He spends almost all this time using it. How the heck is going to cope? He did have a drinking problem before. I think it'll make an interesting story. A nice twist. But of course he'll get the ring back. My advice would be to stick it out but of course it's totally your choice.

I ended it for myself months ago. Far less painless. I'll just borrow my friend's copies and pick up where I left off. I was honestly underwhelmed and unimpressed by the first 5 issues. Sad really, I had such hope for this. Pretty interesting development came out of this. Must say I didn't see that coming considering how much of a rabid man lust Geoff Johns has for Hal Jordan.

@Avenging-X-Bolt:
Meh, drop it now, save the money or spending on something you know you'll enjoy and bum a friend's copies. That's always worked for me and it's opened the door to many series that I now love and likely wouldn't have been reading otherwise.

I wanted the guardians to die (or subsequent random dimension banishment) so that the NEW GUARDIANS would actually be the new guardians. Then the corps's would have to interact somehow.

Big changes (at least, for a story arc, obviously).
Will there be a War of the Green Lanterns-Aftermath now?

Indeed, I hope they can keep that change though, anything other than Jordan, specially THAT guy, is much better.

The ending was a big shock. Left me with more questions then answers.
