A new Flashpoint character is highlighted. Michael Desai, also known as The Outsider, is a force to be reckoned with.
The Good
How much action do you like in a comic? Because this issue is chalk full of some no-holds-barred fight scenes. The Outsider is a pretty sweet character. He's made of stone, and he seems to have the ability to control it. He's invulnerable, but he has a bit of a temper if you mess up his suit. There are some great character redesigns of Mr Terrific (and his wife Mrs. Terrific) and the brief glimpse we get of Captain Marvel.
Did I mention the awesome fight scenes between The Outsider, his cronies, against Mr & Mrs Terrific and The Rising Sun? Everyone in the Flashpoint Universe is brutal and The Outsider is no different. He has no problem killing off anyone or anything that gets in his way. The character comes off as such a scumbag, heartless a-hole, but it works so well.
Someone wants The Outsider dead. We have a bit of a mystery going on here, and it's really interesting stuff. However, we don't really find out that's the main idea of this book until the end of the issue, which isn't a bad thing because the set up to the issue is so darn good.
The Bad
The main problem with the book was that I don't think many people will give it a shot. It's an unfamiliar character, and people may turn away from that. The book does start off pretty slow because it is a lot of set-up, but it really is worth it.
The Verdict
Surprise! Another Flashpoint tie-in is awesome! Yes it's an unfamiliar character, and you may not be too familiar with the creative team, but trust me, this book is a lot of fun. Sure, the set-up drags a tad, but the action in this book will make you forget about the slow start. I'm very excited to see where this goes, and even though we don't know too much about the Outsider, he's totally my second favorite character in the Flashpoint Universe, second only to Thomas Wayne/Batman. I highly recommend this issue.
