Extraordinary X-Men #4

5

Mr. Sinister's plans are revealed. The X-Men have to deal with him and protecting the school from demons.

The X-Men are having a tough time in their current All-New, All-Different Marvel title. They've been dealing with the dangers of the Terrigen Mists on mutants and trying to defend their school after Magik was abducted. To make things worse, Mr. Sinister is now in the picture and whenever he pops up, it's never a good thing.

Here's a confession: I never liked Mr. Sinister as a character. As a vile villain, we're not supposed to. For me, it's more that I just don't really care about his character. That being said, I can't argue with his appearance here. Now that mutants have become sterile due to the Terrigen Mists, they're in danger of being extinct. Of course Sinister will have a stake in this and something to say about it. The results of his findings are pretty fascinating and deliver a big cliffhanger.

Jeff Lemire has also brought back some of the excitement I've always loved in X-Men comics. We have a nice mix of characters. The team has some familiar and expected members but it's also evolved a little. I'm really looking forward to some of these characters interacting with each other, specifically Old Man Logan, but there's just been so much chaos going on which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Storm is really taking charge of the team and Jean continues to grow with her powers.

Humberto Ramos' pencils and Victor Olazaba's inks are great at capturing the energy of the story along with the different emotions the characters are going through. Edgar Delgado's colors are gorgeous. The different scenes each have a different vibe going on with the different palette's Delgado uses.

EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN has easily become my favorite X-Men title. Despite not being too thrilled with the Terrigen Mist storyline and a villain I don't really like, I found myself glued to every page of the book. Humberto Ramos, Victor Olazaba, and Edgar Delgado are making this a glorious title as well. Things are looking bad for the X-Men but that's nothing new. This is a book you can just dive into and enjoy. With all the excitement, suspense, and tension, I feel like a kid again reading an X-Men comic.
