Demon Knights #6 - The Balance Review

5

Vandal Savage leads the Siege of Little Spring. Hope you like awesomeness.

Vandal Savage leads the siege with Questing Queen and Mordru against the Demon Knights. Madame Xanadu tries to "balance the scales" by making a sacrifice. Also in this issue, dinosaurs and giant, metal dragons.

The Good

I've never giggled more from excitement then when Vandal Savage yelled out of a bullhorn "Send in the dragons!" This book makes me love Vandal Savage, a character I had truly no opinion of prior to this series, more and more every issue. He's a weird, pompous, wild-card of a character.

The five-year-old inside of me went off-the-wall nuts for this issue. It has everything I could ever want in a comic: epic battles, a Pegasus, people riding a triceratops, dino-men weilding swords, and dragons. Essentially, this book is filled with over-the-top, memorable imagery that will have you glued to the book from start to finish.

This issue is great for action lovers, but it won't let down those who love story-driven books. This issue is a bit more action-orientated, but there's some great story set-up for the upcoming issues, including some more Jason Blood/Etrigan/Madam Xanadu love-triangle business. I'm still not sure whether Xanadu is to be trusted at this point, and what her intentions are with Etrigan and Jason Blood. I'm more confused than anything, but in a good way.

This is an amazing creative team. Paul Cornell has truly help create a stand-out book that's not just guys in tights saving people from other guys in tights. He took familiar faces and put them into a book that's incredibly fun. The art is so amazing. I mention it every time for a reason, it's at least top three of the art from the new 52. You've ever been excited from an artist drawing a horse? You will with Demon Knights when you see Diogenes Neves, Robson Rocha, Oclair Albert, and Marcelo Maiolo's art.

The Bad

Not applicable. Buy this book.

The Verdict

This is one of my favorite books of the new 52, next to BATMAN and AQUAMAN, but I've said that a few times already. I love everything about this book, and I'd highly suggest hopping on this book as soon as possible so you don't miss out on all the fun. Seriously, buy this book.

The art in this book is great, for sure. This issue was atleast 70% action and it was easy to follow throughout.

I didn't enjoy this issue quite as much as I did the last one, but it was definitely still a fun read. I'm a little worried about possible cancellation though, I read in an interview plan to do another round of cancels before the DCnU is a year old and DK isn't all that high in the sales charts...

I keep going back and forth on whether or not I want to try this book when it comes out in trade. I've liked pretty much all Paul Cornell that I've read, and reviewers have nothing but nice things to say about the book, but I really dislike Etrigan. I don't know why, but the character annoys the hell out of me. I think it's maybe just the rhyming that makes reading him to tedious... I don't know.

Ironically, I love the character of Jason Blood, especially in a Batman story.

@walkingcarpet: Etrigan barely rhymes at all in this series so you should totally check it out.

Please bring back unscripted reviews. I miss them. Just have random people in all of them. Or copy Ifanboy and do podcasts for each review.

@walkingcarpet:He doesn't really rhyme in Demon Knights, bar the oath Jason has to say in order to 'summon' Etrigan.

@Comicbookgal @Adnan Good to hear. I'll definitely be adding this to the list of books to check out when it gets collected.

I really enjoyed this issue. I think this series started off kind of slowly but now that it's going I can hardly wait to see what happens next.

@walkingcarpet: He actually went stumped in #2 or #3 when he did want to rhyme, hasn't done so since.
