Ant-Man Annual #1

4

Scott Lang and Hank Pym team up!

The Ant-Man movie is just a few days away from hitting the theaters, so it's pretty cool to see an annual issue of the ANT-MAN series hit the shelves, especially since Marvel is in the midst of SECRET WARS, which put a hold on almost everything Marvel was publishing.

In this issue, Scott Lang learns about what happened to Hank Pym in AVENGERS: RAGE OF ULTRON and it reminds Scott of the last time the two of them teamed up, to take on Egghead and his A.I.Vengers. Nick Spencer delivers one of the funniest issues of this series and some of the best moments are when Grizzly demanded to watch the Chicago Bears game, even though they're in Miami (Dolphins territory) and when A.I. Wonder Man proclaimed he's an awful actor.

There were also two sets of artists on the book as well. Brent Schoonover did the flashback sequences and Ramon Rosanas did the present day story, with Jordan Boyd tying it all together with colors. Personally, I wish Boyd would have done a little tweaking with the flashback colors, just to really hit the nail on the head, but all-in-all, the artwork on the issue was extremely well crafted.

ANT-MAN ANNUAL #1 was like a breath of fresh air. It was a nice little break from everything going on in SECRET WARS and was a highly entertaining read. This series really has a "little less wacky SUPERIOR FOES" feel to it and it was really cool to see two generations of people who wore the Ant-Man mantle working together. The issue will put a smile on the faces of Ant-Man fans or just comic fans in general. I haven't had this much fun with an Annual issue in a long time. I highly recommend it.
