From 1933 to 1981 The Hotspur brought tales of pluck, courage and derring-do to its audience every week. Beginning as a story paper, in 1959 it transformed from mainly text-based tales into a dynamic comic magazine. For the next few decades The Hotspur thrilled its readers with a mix of war stories, espionage escapades, wild west adventure and action-packed superheroics!

As well as the weekly comic, The Hotspur Annual brought an extra dose of drama every Christmas. These hardback books featured extended adventures for the stars of the comic, alongside one-off stories and special features designed to appeal to the mainly male audience. The Hotspur Annual actually outlived its weekly counterpart by a full decade.

This 'Best of' compilation is just a small sampling of strips and features from the annuals over the years, with appearances from legendary Hotspur stars The Wolf of Kabul (British Intelligence agent on the Northwest Frontier and his cricket bat-wielding companion, Chung), King Cobra (superhero alter-ego of journalist Bill King as he wages war on the crimes he reports), The Black Sapper (former high-tech master-criminal turned champion of justice) and many more.
