razzatazz's Red Tornado #1 - Family review

    We got a dog?

I should say upfront that Red Tornado is not the comic book world's most compelling character.  He sort of gets stuck in the middle between an interesting alien and interesting robot, but both of those character types have their drawbacks and unfortunately Red Tornado ends up on the short end of both.  This story though is pretty interesting.  First of all the writer has done a pretty good job of displaying the hard times he has to relate to humans, even when he is at one of Traya's recitals.  His dedication to finding more like him is also interesting, especially so with the introduction of the Red Volcano.  Red Volcano is looking for the source of the beacon which has alerted both him and Tornado and has gone to launch his own interrogation of T.O. Morrow.  In the end Tornado finds what he was looking for, a family member.  This is overall a pretty interesting concept, and to be honest one which I got sold on pretty quickly.  As one of the signature members of the Justice League, his history has mostly been unobserved throughout the years of him being published.  This seems like a good place to start.

Frankly, the "making Red Tornado an Andriod" angle is really playing thin. Yes, we know he's an android. Yes it's been forced down our throats for goodness knows how long. Hes a robot, he has a hard time with emotions, etc etc. We get it. Enough.  I want to see more of the interesting Meltzer Red Tornado...

      Slow Start 0

Red Tornado 1.  This is one of those issues I really really was looking forward to and at the same time really really didn't want to read.   Have you ever had a character you love that nobody does right?  Maybe its Hawk who was great under Barbara Kesel but everyone else just writes him like a dick.  Or maybe its Jason Todd who is a strong character and a true hero when written by Starlin or Wolfman but he's either a brat or completely nuts under any other writer. For me?  That character is the ...
