Red Sonja, Too Comical For My Liking.

I finally needed a break from all the Dark Horse Conan stories I have been reading as of late and decided to be wild and read something so different from that...Red Sonja.

I expected more from Red Sonja I believe. The comic itself wasn't too bad. It's a one-shot self contained story where Sonja is marooned on an island and basically it turns out to be yet another Island of Dr. Moreau. It's almost an exact copy of that story.

The artwork was poor compared to what I was expecting. Perhaps the Dark Horse issues have gotten me used to their artwork but I had hoped they could have drawn Sonja better. I hate to say 'cartoony' in a comic, but I like a little more of the 'Heavy Metal' styled artwork in a fantasy book like Red Sonja. Alas, this is not Heavy Metal though and I had to get used to it. I suppose now that I've read it, it's alright. I just had hoped that Red Sonja as a comic would have taken itself seriously. Instead it seems like a parody of female barbarians.

I'll read a few more in the future, but now my expectations are much lower.
