    Calmest Rage Ever 6

With Krona dead of something that was supposed to be retconned out, Atrocitus needs something else to rage at. He finds it.The GoodArt: Ed Benes does a good job. It's very nice to look at.Side-characters: It's nice to see that at least one of the other corps that were introduced as the new and amazing and awesome characters that are totally here to stay finally get a bit more spotlight. During Blackest Night - which technically didn't happen anymore - the Corps became throwaway characters.Nose: ...

    Good Sub for EW 1

Red Lanterns #1 makes sense as a first issue, and seems like a good sub for Emerald Warrior.1-It gives you a quick recap of how the Red lantern Corps started, and it stays pretty close to what has already been asstablished in previous books.2-It gives a quick recap of the end of The War of the green lanterns. This is benifical to anyone who was confused by what happened.3-It starts setting the stage for down the road. Who will be the leader? What is the true mission of the Red Lanterns? Who is t...

Okay. Who Gave Atrocitus the Valium? 10

Peter Milligan and Ed Benes put the spotlight on the Red Lantern Corps but come just shy of really selling Red Lanterns as a concept deserving of an ongoing series. The overshadowing presence of Atrocitus and a seemingly out-of-place tangent in the United Kingdom hold this debut issue back from really impressing.Atrocitus, leader of the Red Lantern Corps, is one of the best new characters to come from DC in recent years, and characters like him have a lot to do with the success the Green Lantern...

Surprisingly strong issue & Dex-Starr. That's all you need 2

In almost every way, "Red Lanterns" #1 is an introduction to the characters and a launching point into what looks to be a blood-fueled, action-packed series. Writer Peter Milligan has several things going in his first issue. The book opens with a fantastic action scene showing off the Red Lantern's signature style of brutal violence and featuring one of my favorite DC characters, Dex-Starr. I loved every panel of this opening sequence and artist Ed Benes' beautiful pencils only made it better. ...

    More Than Mere Rage 0

Red Lanterns was a book I never would have given a chance if it weren't being written by one of my favorites, Peter Milligan. It's not that I have anything against the characters or the premise; it's just that I don't have much of a background in the various Lantern mythologies, and honestly don't care enough to develop one. Red Lanterns #1 is definitely written with people like me in mind. It gives just enough background on the team to ease new readers in, and mostly steers clear of the kind of...

ATROCITUS SMASH!.... Oh Wait I Did That Joke Already This Month.. 7

The Good: This issue has a pretty nice cover for being the first issue. All of the core Red Lanterns are there, with Atrocitus out in the front, and I like how the logo is a little more hard and angle-y than the Green Lantern one. Even The Butcher is there! Ed Benes art is solid pretty much all through this book. It's nothing that stands out significantly, but it's a nice good kind of normal that somehow works really well for this series. You can almost feel the rage bubbling just below the surf...

    Lamentations of an Despot 0

This issue is a good intro to Atrocitus more so than the Red Lanterns. You get a little back story about the Red Lanterns, but it is really muted and lost in the mix. If i had no idea who the Red Lanterns were, what their powers were, or anything about the Emotional Spectrum or the DCU I'd have just about as little clue as I did before.the book is written from the point of view of Atrocitus and the writing harkens back to the monologues issues of galactic despots such as Darkseid and Mongul. It'...

What are you doing with my cat? 2

The Good-Red Lanterns! They're so cool. This is a great concept. I've always felt that the best part about the recent GL comics was how three dimensional the villains are in it. You can really understand their motivations, and in many ways they're better than the heroes.-I'm glad they found a new motivation for Atrocitus.-More depth is given to Atrocitus's past, which is great.-Good story. I liked his monologue.-The Dex-Starr intro was great. The Bad- I felt like the art was so-so.-Atrocitus and ...

Sadist never looked so good. 10

Thank you Peter Milligan for being the deepest writer in comics psychologically. From insane stories like Shade, Face and Eaters, to the symbolic alchemy in Hellblazer, you get to the root of what makes people tick.  I am glad you are writing the Red Lanterns, because a lesser writer would have a lot of angry aliens beating things up without rhyme or reason.  The character piece stories of the 52 I find the most interesting because they create an accessible point.  This is ...

So what about the other 6 corps? 0

Red Lanterns #1The first thing I thought of when I heard they were making this series was "why the red lanterns?". I'm sure I'm not the only person that thought that question. But when I started reading this comic I was like there are some really good characters that have potential in this comic book. We see the walks of rage in different forms in this issue. Atrocitus has a lot of rage because of his planets destruction, including the death of his family. Atrocitus is the leader of the Red Lant...

    Rage against something. 0

Review for Red Lanterns #1.  The Story: Atrocitus monologues about how they need to find a new drive for there rage and on earth we see two brothers mourning the death of their grandfather.  The Good: Milligan really gives us a good look at who Atrocitus is, whats his backstory and what his corps do. The one-sided conversation Atrocitus has Krona's dead corpse was really interesting and the way he comes to the conclusion he was married to the rage he had for him. The intro with Dex-Starr is also...

A perfect way to introduce these guys 0

Just simply dazzling artworkDespite that I'm a fan of most things Green Lantern and a fan of the creative team working on this book, I really didn't have much of an expectation for this book or even a desire to actually read it. I think the Red Lanterns getting a book was nice idea if not entirely unnecessary but there are some other DC books currently out there that are not needed (coughs...Mr Terrific) and could be replaced by something better. Hopefully one of those gets cancelled and we can ...

What are you doing to my cat? 0

The concept behind villain driven titles is never an easy one to pin down.  Granted the Red Lanterns could be described as something more akin to an anti-hero, but it still leaves the reader with the problem of wondering if they should really become too invested in the success of the protagonists, in this case some characters that have done some not very nice things over the years since their introduction as ring bearing corps.  This issue though at least alleviates of distracts from that proble...

With blood and rage and kittens abound 3

Right off the bat...... This isn't ground breaking by any means. It's pretty much ALL fanservice from the giant splash of Dex-Starr to Bleez's T/A shot every couple panels. But! and this is a big one. It also sets up some good potential with the side story of the two teenagers who's Grandfather got mugged and seem like at least one of them are going to become a Red lantern and it recaps all what has happened lately very well. But none of that is why people are going to read Red lanterns; They ar...
