super_man_23's Red Hood and the Outlaws #29 - The Big Picture, Part 1 review

An interstellar ship stealing story arc. Woo-hoo?

A couple of aliens decide to take the Outlaw's ship for their own personal needs! Join Red Hood and his creative team on another adventure with story telling by Will Pfeifer and artwork by Rafael Sandoval, Paul Neary, Jordi Tarragona, and Matt Yackey.

    The Good

    At least it still
At least it still "feels" like a Red Hood and the Outlaws story.

I won't say I enjoyed the story. Because I didn't. However, I enjoyed that it still "feels" like a Red Hood and the Outlaws story. Throughout this entire title we've had good-and-bad stories; this is one of the bad ones. Though this story doesn't feel really original and meaningful, writer Will Pfeifer still made it feel like a Outlaws story with how he tailored the story from the beginning all the way till the end.

The story has Red Hood and the Outlaws dealing with their own personal problems mentally and how they handle it alone. However, when a threat comes that they themselves can't handle alone they eventually put their problems behind them to work as a team. That's why this "feels" like an Outlaws story because of their teamwork principals. So Will did a great job at keeping that feeling of the team accomplishing some goal (i.e. in this case getting their ship back) when they are together.

The art team did a great job on the artwork; I absolutely enjoyed how this issue looked from the colors-to-inks-to-art style!

    The Bad

Roy's reaction is the same I had while reading this issue.
Roy's reaction is the same I had while reading this issue.

The story was boring and predictable. The aliens that are stealing the Outlaw's ship don't feel in anyway important. Once this story finishes, I'm pretty sure no one will remember it because this story doesn't have any exciting or challenging antagonist that the Outlaws will have a great deal of trouble with. When reading through this issue at many times I thought, "what's the point of all of this?", and continued reading hoping it would get better. However, it never did. The story stayed underwhelming from beginning-to-end and the only thing that saved it was how writer Will Pfeifer could only keep the Outlaw's sense of "teamwork" in this issue. If you are looking for action and a excellent story -- you won't find it in this issue!

    The Verdict

Don't worry Roy, you'll make it up to us readers after this story is finished.... hopefully.

This isn't the best Outlaw's issue. This issue didn't have good qualities because the villains were boring, the team could easily take down this small threat, and the story felt generic. I do not recommend this issue for those that are seeking to get into the series cause the issue will make you regret trying out this series. If you are a new reader and don't really care (in other words, looking for a "jumping on point") I guess you could read this. It's bad, but I mean this is the best place to jump on without needing to know so many things that have happened recently in this title. So if anything, that's probably the best this issue has to offer! Overall 1 out of 5.
