jonesdeini's Red Hood and the Outlaws #1 - I Fought the Law and Kicked its Butt review

Yes...I willingly read a story featuring Jason Todd

Red Hood is busy putting together his team of mercs when his complicated past inserts itself into his present.

    The Good

I really liked the art in this book and many of the design changes didn't bother me at all.

There was a lot of action in this issue and that looks to be the status quo from here on out.

There was some genuinely humorous banter between Jason and Roy.

This book clears up some of the things about Titans continuity I was wondering about.

    The Bad

Don't like Jason's new mask...seriously helmets with facial expression always throw me off. The helmet makes him look like Romita Jr's Iron man Here.

I'm still confused as to why Roy is in the position we find him in at the start of the issue. Perhaps that'll be explained later.

I ABHOR the changes made to Kori!!! I'm fine with her having different expectations, mores with regards to sex and relationships. However, the changes to her were a bit much to me. And the stuff with how she and her people perceive humans was just an unnecessary alteration. Seriously though, if we get two more guys on the team is she going to run a space train? And her forgetting the Titans was just beyond silly to me.

Kori will be the resident cheese cake in this book, so yeah, fap away gents.

So was Jason a wizard at some point? No seriously, like is the "All Caste" a group of magicians?

    The Verdict

My biggest knock on this book is how Kori was handled, I was absolutely disgusted with that. But overall this is a solid comic with some pretty good art. I have no love whatsoever for Jason Todd and this story just isn't my thing. Fans of Jason will likely love the hell out of this and it'll be a sure buy for them. Me, well, I didn't see enough here worth coming back for.

I absolutely agree with your opinion on Starfire. While the artwork for her was great, it's her personality that just tears me up. I thought this series would bring her back to glory, but I guess I was wrong.

Other than that, this was a good issue.

    Well said, folk.

Heck... if DC really wants to make money of this, use "Vertigo" like the Max line and have his Kori in a porn comic.

I was not big on Kori's personality as well.  It is now official she is the "teenage dream" that Katy Perry sings about.

I personally loved the art, I thought it was very clean in line work and details.  The visual narrative was strong, because it was need to express the perversion of the two guys.  The Wildstorm like panels was also I nice touch.

I am like you I don't intend to read this monthly

Yeah, that's never bothered me...at all. In fact it's one of my favorite aspects of the character. But all that other bujou? Now, yo, I'm good on that.

I flipped through this at the shop and almost bought it based on the art alone. Then saw how Starfire was handled like a pornstar and put it back. I guess I made the rigt call.

I've always jokingly referred to Kory as "Slutfire" simply because I dislike the fact (and admit to needlessly hating on her) because of her relationship with Dick (insert penis jokes here). The fact that the nickname now actually applies doesn't really give me any joy. I was giddy for about fifteen minutes before it really sunk in what a low blow this was to the portrayal of women in comics. There's nothing wrong with a woman who's comfortable with her sexuality. There's nothing wrong with a wom...

Thus far at DC in the new 52 various characters have gotten a revamp and have often done so after a sort of theme.  In my opinion they have tried at times to either copy what works at Marvel, or tried to head off into a sub-genre of pop culture.  This sub-genre is what we get here, but the sub-genre which they seem to be emulating here is the Victoria's Secret fashion show watching college frat boy.  The plot here is kind of transparent, as a large portion of it seems to be focused on either the...
