She was taught pacifism by the Azarathians, and had her name changed to Arella. After Raven was born, Azar, the temple's high priestess, took care of her. Arella saw Raven very rarely, but when Azar died, she took guardianship over her daughter. After Trigon held Raven prisoner, Arella decided to go help the Teen Titans rescue her daughter. The Titans were successful in sealing Trigon in an alternate dimension, but Arella agreed to go with him to prevent him from escaping. Unfortunately, peace did not last long. Raven fell under the influence of Trigon, and the Titans, along with Arella, battled against Trigon and a possessed Raven. Raven's body disappeared with Trigon's destruction, so Arella began to look for her daughter. However, even though she found Raven, so did Brother Blood. He captured both mother and daughter, but the two were rescued by the New Teen Titans, Robotman, and Azrael. Shortly after, an group known as the Wildebeest Society began hunting down the Titans, which included Raven. The Titans find out the leader of the Society was actually a a fellow Titan, Jericho. It is believed that after Trigon's defeat, the tainted souls of Azarath merged with Jericho. Arella and Danny Chase sacrifice themselves to drive away the evil spirits, thus combining their own souls with the cleansed souls of Azarath, the two perishing to do so. |
