Raven grew up in a family of witches, the Coven of the Black Rose. As was the custom, when she came of age, she needed to take on a new "magickal name". Raven chose to keep her birth name, but added the new last name Hex.
Very well endowed, even as a young girl, Raven was insecure about her body, and resented the leers and wolf whistles she attracted from males. Over time, her attitude eventually changed to "I've got it, I'll flaunt it" exhibitionism.
One day in school, Raven and her sister Rowan (who later would take the magickal name Tarot) were being bullied and harassed by some of the other students. One of their tormentors threw a rock which hit Rowan in the head. Raven was so angry that she used magic to cause a tree limb to fall on the bullies, breaking the arm of the one that threw the rock at her sister, and injuring the others. As a result, Raven and Rowan were suspended from school.
This enraged their father. He used magic to burn down the school, and when the townspeople tried to do the same to Raven's home, her father used the Forbidden Book Of Shadows to conjure up forest demons to fight the townspeople back. The magic that her father used consumed him and he died as a result.
Raven was devestated by the death of her father. At one point, she went so far as to steal the Forbidden Book Of Shadows, in an attempt to resurrect him, but was unsuccessful. Blaming the townspeople, she vowed to avenge him.
Raven chose the Dark path and began studying Necro-Magick. She ignored her mother's warnings that it would upset the natural balance, and she was banished from the coven.
Raven continued to study and practice Necro-Magick, and started experimenting with the "Cup Of Shadows". After drinking from the cup, the liquid spilled all over her body, forming tattoo-like patterns that she decided she liked.
Raven conjured up a dark creature and had it change her appearance by giving herself her distinctive tattooed eyes, and wraparound markings.
Raven Hex hates mankind for the way they have treated witches (and other magickal creatures). She especially hates the townspeople of Salem, blaming them for the death of her father. Having stolen a forbidden book of dark spells, she intends to use it to bring her dream of magickal supremacy to fruition by bringing about a time of terror for mankind and prosperity for all followers of the craft.
