The Greatest American Hero was an March 18th 1981, TV show on ABC. One of the few cases where a theme song is better known than the show itself ("believe it or not, I'm walking on air..."), the show featured a red-suited, well-meaning, but inept super hero who had little control over his powers.

Partnered with FBI Agent Bill Maxwell, The Greatest American Hero took on mobsters, biker gangs, phony dating services, and various other bad guys. He once even saved the space shuttle from crashing.

Eventually his secret identity was exposed and he let the attention get to his head. The aliens who gave him the suit made him find another worthy individual to inherit the suit - The Greatest American Heroine (Holly Hathaway). Unfortunately the pilot was not picked up by the network and we will never know of her adventures.
