A Good Start
In this issue we meet Makiko Minashi a man who was raised from birth to be the protector of the people of Japan. He takes the title of Rai. He follows the teachings of Japans master computer called Grandmother. This makes it impossible for him to pick a side in the impending revolution.
Valient did not last very long as a publisher. In spite of their popularity in the early 90's. Yet it is something that Rai still enjoys an amount of respect even though other titles have fallen by the wayside. Judging by the first issue it is easy to see why. The writing is solid, and the art is very impressive. The flaw in the cloth though comes from the fact that the creators try really hard to pack too much info into the first issue. This makes the book a bit too much talking headish. Still entertaining by any measure, it just has a slower pace.
