Vengeance Conquest
Flies in a Cathedral is an issue of Quasar written by Mark Gruenwald and drawn by Paul Ryan which ties into Marvel's Acts of Vengeance crossover and has the Avengers own Quasar battle against several villains including Klaw, Living Laser, Red Ghost and Venom.
As you can obviously tell, there's a lot going on in this issue with regards to Quasar fighting villains. Some of the fights are brief but logically so. It's interesting to see how quickly Quasar deals with Venom (5 panels!), particularly since this is a Venom appearance before the enormous Venom craze of the 90s. Most of the enemies pitted against Quasar work pretty well since they're related to types of energy and that's Quasar's speciality. With that said, it's kinda frustrating that we don't ultimately learn what happens to Klaw or Living Laser in this issue (the former escapes when Quasar starts battling Living Laser, the latter jumps into a portal and disintegrates). Did I mention we also have a whole sub-plot with the Watcher?
Yes. This issue is packed with a lot of things. It's great to have so much in one story but on the other hand it's disappointing that a lot of it ends up not really being properly resolved. All 4 of the fights are interesting and make good use of the character's powers and the Red Ghost's plan was pretty intriguing before Quasar went and ruined it. Actually having the Watcher appear wasn't entirely necessary, especially since he didn't give us an explanation to Living Laser's fate, but it's nothing to lose sleep over.
This is an interesting issue of Quasar with a lot going on. Quasar remains utterly likeable and he is faced with some decent villains with interesting powers that play off of his own well. Quasar's issues of Acts of Vengeance aren't exactly integral but are enjoyable tie-ins nevertheless.
