Not only did Punisher have a glut of proper ongoing titles during the late 1980s and early 1990s, he had a ton of OGNs and one-shots. It was a mixed bag in the quality department, but there were some rather fun reads despite the deluge of titles. What was your favorite?
My vote for favorite was Return to Big Nothing. Anytime Steven Grant, Mike Zeck, and John Beatty get together should be celebrated, but this was just a gritty ass Punisher slugfest of a story. Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe is a close second, though. I didn't read this until 1998 or 1999, but it was a killer story if only for being the first Ennis stab at Punisher.
Here's an incomplete list of those titles for your reference:
- Assassin's Guild
- Blood on the Moors
- Bloodlines
- Die Hard in the Big Easy
- Intruder
- Kills the Marvel Universe
- Kingdom Gone
- Return to Big Nothing
- The Prize
I left off prestige format minis like No Man's Land, P.O.V., and the Ghosts of Innocents since they weren't strictly OGNs or one-shots. I also left off the summer and back to school specials because I just felt like it. Feel free to yell at me if we need to add more to the list.
