I couldn't find a dedicated Psylocke thread on here, so my apologies if there is one already.
To me, Psylocke is one of the most interesting X-Men. She has a fascinating back story, a lust for battle like Wolverine, ninja abilities, and can turn her psychic abilities into freakin' SWORDS. And on top of that she's smokin' hot. :) Not that this is any new information for any of you guys. She's actually what got me into the X-Men series to begin with...my friend was reading a comic in class and I saw her sitting there next to Archangel and it was just love at first sight for me. I don't understand why they never focused much on her in the mainstream media...she was curiously left out of the cartoons (for the most part) and her role in the 3rd film was a complete joke.
Any other Psylocke fans out there? And what are your opinions on why she was so blatantly left out of the tv series and films?
Betsy Braddock
Character » Betsy Braddock appears in 4601 issues.
British beauty Elizabeth Braddock is older twin sister of Captain Britain a mutant, former fashion model, and Charter Pilot. She is a long-standing member of the X-Men, Leader of Excalibur, and Founder of the reformed Captain Britain Corps, multi-versal alternate versions of herself.
What's so great about Psylocke?
um, there's alot of Psylocke love to go around.....doesn't take too much effort to search around and find her thread
Body swapped psychic ninjas for 500
I think Betsy is a cool character...definitely in my list of top favorite x-ladies. I wish they would have included her in more than just one episode of WATX (maybe she would have been in the AoA storyline if the series wasn't cancelled). And I agree, her role in X-3 was lame. I would rather they have left her out if they were only going to give her shadow teleporting (or what ever her power was when she came through the wall). I like her in Uncanny X-Force, and hope that they keep her on a main team roster going forward.
True. I admired Betsy for sacrificing her TP to keep him at bay. It was a high price to pay but SK is definitely no joke. Also, even though he was eaten by Bast, I saw a marvel solicit for April that says he returns again.
Lol, isn't she one of the few x-telepaths that have died more than once but still manages to stay alive? this refers to Jean Grey LOL
" @Nefarious said:Pfft nonsense. We saw her trying to put the moves on Scott. So we know what kind of girl she is. xP" @Andferne: And a telepath, too! Hehe. "Which means she knows what you are thinking. LOL
She might be angry if your thoughts involve the following theme:" She is sexy. ""
" @THUNDERBOLT30 said:Also, even though he was eaten by Bast, I saw a marvel solicit for April that says he returns again. "I love the Shadow King. So could you please give me more information on this return of the Shadow King? What story arc will it be? Will it debut in April? What's the plot? The Shadow King returning is no surprise to me. He is effectively immortal.
@THUNDERBOLT30 said:" @Edamame: True. I admired Betsy for sacrificing her TP to keep him at bay. It was a high price to pay but SK is definitely no joke.Indeed. However, wasn't the Shadow King controlling billions of minds at the time? He wasn't focusing enough energy on Psylocke, in my opinion. "
It will be in Uncanny X-Force #8 that is set to come out in April. There aren't any details yet otherthan the ad issue summary...here is what it states
Before the Fall: part 1
A nuclear facility has been infiltrated and taken over by the Shadow King! With nuclear missiles now aimed at both Utopia and New York, the lives of Earth's heroes hang in the balance. X-Force heads into action, but to save the world, they must make a terrible choice. In order to prevent a nuclear holocaust, Wolverine and his team must kill every last person working in the facility. X-Force can save the day, but at what cost?
I don't know if Psylocke could have defeated Shadow King on her own in Psi-Wars...I doubt it. I need to reread that part of the issue but IIRC he did channel billions of thoughts into a blast that left Betsy as a...puddled-mess if that's a good way to put it.
Sorry. I should have worded that better. She defeated SK by herself on the astral plane but what I meant was that I don't think her TP on it's own powerful enough to handle Shadow King. After he hit her with the wave of massive psionic energy, IIRC, the only reason she came back to be able to fight SK was due to her powers of the Crimson Dawn, and they somehow saved her. And also, she was able free the minds of Storm and and the rest of the X-team ( I think Wolverine, Cannonball, Marrow, Cecilia Reyes and Maggot) through the owner of the Crimson Dawn. If not for this power, she probably would have been dead.
Oh, I bought the issues in a comic shop years ago but I still have them.

I don't recall Jean being in that story arc??
" @THUNDERBOLT30 said:" I don't recall Jean being in that story arc?? "Oh. *shrugs* Well, that is what Phoenix of the Black Throne told me. "
Hmmmm.....I just quickly reread it and if she stated that the training (or Jean "guiding" Betsy) happened in Psi-War then she is wrong.
She has a warriors soul and a complicated and unique history. She places a healthy emphasis on who we are, and who that is, when you we think of our personality, our memories, and out physical characteristics. Sometimes, the person the physical self we are born with doesn't always define us, compared to the other things we could be defined as. The way she uses her powers is very bamf as well. She is iconic, and a huge contributing factor to why X-Men is so popular.
This is whats so great about Psylocke
My 3d Alt dimension version of her :P

If anyone cant see the image
A psionic blade is pretty kick ass and she's has a smoking body and runs around half-naked all of the time. The movies and comics may not play her up that much, but she was a good character in the X-Men 2 video game on the Genesis and a beast in Marvel vs Capcom 2.
outside of the one word "AMAZING" and SEXY answers which really dont convey what makes her great. Lame costume.. sorry had to say it.. and it's a rip off at that. she needs a new one.
BUT what makes her great to me, is her journey. This woman has been many things and through hell and back, and is made the stronger for it each time. Under certain writers, they "GET' her. Other writers write a costume, powerset, and hot asian woman with no personality. Psylocke has taken care of Otherworldly children, been a British solo heroine, a top model, a psionic operative, A charter pilot. A action junkie who was always trying to prove herself, but not as strong physically as those around her. She was manipulative, deceitful, classy, hard edged, no nonsense, fashionista, who always worked for the greater good, even if it mean sacrificing others, including herself. She would have been Cyclops basically but hotter and less conflicted moral code. She was very creative in the use of her Telepathy.. preferring control, illusion, manipulation to direct confrontation. she was an excellent field leader.
She was cool, as the ninja, people see her booty, then they see her swords, then they see her costume, then her powers, and somewhere they see the character, IF the writer does her justice. She's defeated sabretooh 2x without being a ninja. Kept the Shadow king in check, and other triumphs, without being an Omega level mutant. She's cool and rich, I'm glad Remender understands that.
The reason why I love Psylocke is because she's what got me into comics in the first place. When I was younger I played a lot video games, fighting games to be precise. I used her as an assist in MvC, initially picking her because of my love for the color purple, and she had some awesome purple hair. She eventually became a team staple for me and my best character in MvC2. Years after that, when I was about 12 or 13 a friend of mine introduced me to actual comics by letting borrow an X-Men trade. Lo and behold Psylocke was featured in it and I instantly fell in love. I also felt as if I could relate to her. She had been white then transferred into the body of an Asian woman. I, myself was a half Asian half white woman. Now here I am, chin deep in long boxes having had purple hair for 7+ years.
She has something that makes her unique, her psi-blades, similar to Wolverine's claws. There's other things to, but usually, a visual que is the first thing that you experiance.
As for why she wasnt in the 90's cartoon, maybe they felt the swords were too similar to Wolverine's claws. She couldnt stab anyone with them, plus, people have a problem with female characters getting hit by males.
She was in the 90's cartoon, just not as an X-man.
Also I started disliking her when my favorite character was used as a vehicle of her own development.
