According to the movie of Bardock, he was severely injured, and when healed his power increased dramatically, so at that point he may have been more powerful than King Vegeta.
The King got knocked out by one love tap from Frieza, Bardock got hit by a planet buster....but still died.

Oh, I know. I'm just saying, an answer to that question has been more or less found. Or at least debated upon. What I'm curious about is if lightsabers can harm energy-based characters (Like Proteus). Any input on that? "
Unless they can manipulate energy or absorb them, then light saber shouldn't harm them although the power output from those light sabers are quite tremendous and not sure it could overload those energy based characters.
