Holy Cow! Is that Ben Kingsley ... as The Mandarin?
Aside from looking completely comical, Ben Kingsley is of Indian (his father) and either Russian or German (his mother). Isn't the Mandarin, I don't know, um, Chinese? No good Chinese actors exist? What is next? Someone make a movie version of Avatar: The Last Airbender without using Asian actors?
Are you guys sure its the Mandarin? I thought that the "Ten Rings" terrorist group from the first Iron Man was supposed to be the Marvel Cinematic U's allusion to the Mandarin. could it be another Iron Man villain, perhaps?
@darth_jones: Dude, the issue hasn't even come out yet. Why don't you just read it in your LCS and then save your judgment for afterwards. Who knows? You might be surprised.
Plus, #0 was an incredible improvement over what we've been seeing and I can actually say I'm excited about what I'm seeing so far of #13. Just judging from the preview, it looks very nineties, but in a good way. Its not too "extreme", and yet at the same time has some of that classic nineties feel. No surprise coming from Lobdell, best known as being a nineties X-Men writer. While I didn't like his Teen Titans, I have to say that he may be what Superman needs. Although that could be because I was a big fan of 90s Superman. For me, at least, the nineties Superman comics were some of the best Superman comics. And this is coming from someone who was born in the 1990s and did all of his 90s reading after said decade had already passed.
@phaedrusnyc: He only used his X-Ray vision to look through Lois, who had her back turned to both him and Perry. The front of the phone was facing in his direction.
I can't wait. Even though I hated Lobdell on Teen Titans, I feel like he may be just the guy for Superman. *knock on wood*
People accuse him of being very '90s, but I actually always felt that for Superman, that was one of the best eras for the character. As long as its not too outlandishly '90s with names like "Bonesmasher" (who was recently just introduced in Superboy by Defalco, ugh) or "Crushface", but just has a somewhat retro feel to it, it should be good.
EDIT: I also love how Clark's so excited at the fact that he sweat. It just shows how much he actually considers himself (or at least wants to consider himself) as human.
I honestly don't get why Chris Giarrusso is on here every week. I mean, its cool to spotlight someone who utilizes a cartoonish style every once in a while, but to be honest I'm not a big fan of his art. It just looks childish. I'm not trying to be mean, but if he was actually put on the art duties of a comic that I was reading, I would drop it in a second.
@PepeLepw55: Why? Besides Justice League where he's a little more battle-ready than before, in his own title, he acts pretty much like he always has. Or at least what I remember him as. Perez's New 52 run wasn't bad because of his characterization. It was bad because the story was boring as hell (sorry George).
Are you just complaining about the costume design, because I think that him in armor is better than him in what was essentially a blue leatard with underwear stapled on top.
@Dernman: But they actually said that before and then like a few months later, they said "wait, never mind, it is still in continuity". Idk, if they'd do that again, but....
