Unless traveling to the past is part of the timeline to begin with? Like if the travel through time is the whole purpose that sets things in motion.

However I think the "removal" idea doesn't have "too simple" an answer upon the return aspect. Think of it as distance as well, if you return from a vacation life goes on as it would. You are not completely removed from your home perminantly just because you go to Hawaii or something, same consept if you travel through time as well. Assumeing TOTAL removeal from the time stream seems to be the simplistic arguement. Of course in the spidey case, the future was avoided because spidey didn't stay in the future (as we can assume was the case with that future). Otherwise the story is pointless and NYC is destroyed now. Is time fluid or concrete is the real question.
