Monsters on the Prowl

Monsters, creatures, and beasts in comics.

These aren't just people with superpowers. These are men, women, animals, and entities that are so far removed from what we see on a daily basis that there is no other word for them than "monster".

List items

  • One of the best known comic monsters.

  • The X-Men's resident monster.

  • Brock, Gargin...doesn't matter who's wearing the suit. They're all monsters.

  • One of Marvel's most dangerous monsters.

  • Sometimes it's not the body, but the mind that makes one a monster.

  • Not every monster wanted to be one...

  • Basil Karlo, Matt Hagen, Preston Payne, Sondra Fuller...it doesn't look like the Clayface legacy is going to stop anytime soon.

  • Don't let his tragic past fool you. He's all monster now. Beware this crocodile's tears.

  • What's that? He's just human? It's just his fear toxin that makes him scary? Try telling that to his victims...

  • The lord of all evil, you would be a fool not to say this demon is a monster.

  • A long-standing foe of Doctor Strange and the killer of the Ancient One, this demon has come a long way from being just another Cthulhu rip-off.

  • The only one Mephisto truly fears is his own son.

  • The Living Planet!

  • A living island, the world's largest mutant, and the new X-Men's first foe.

  • Beware the might of the Living Hill!

  • Marvel's first Hulk, Xemnu the Titan is still alive and kicking.

  • Forget the whole "brain in a jar" thing. His gay lover is a talking, French gorilla!

  • Forget the whole "talking, French gorilla" thing. His gay lover is a brain in a jar!

  • As the giant Fu Manchu rip-off of the 60's, or as the Apokaliptian robot of the modern age, this guy is just crazy!

  • Sure, the real life version was just a human killer. But throw a parasitic "Ripper" creature into the mix, and you've got yourself a monster.

  • He may be on this list, but don't call him a monster to his face, or it'll be clobbering time!

  • Sure, he's human, but I bet his whole Giant-Man role has caused more than a few knees to buckle.

  • Whatever knows fear burns at the Man-Thing's touch!

  • The defender of Earth's plant life, this is one swamp monster you'd be glad to have on your side.

  • Bombu the Witch-Man!

  • Don't think he's a monster? Have you ever looked under his mask?

  • An evil alien race of shapeshifters? Sounds like monsters to me.

  • While not a monster himself, he does control an army of them.

  • A living mass of electricity.

  • "No place on Earth will give you safety, mortal, when Fin Fang Foom STRIKES!"

  • An imperfect clone of Superman.

  • A demonic superhero.

  • Where would a list of comic book monsters be without the King of the Monsters?

  • The Son of Satan!

  • One of the last remaining Elder Gods...and also one of the most powerful.

  • The first demon.

  • The first vampire.

  • The lord of the Frost Giants.

  • Mightiest warrior of the Rock Trolls.

  • An enchanted suit of indestructible armor.

  • The first living beings on Earth, who have become the first demons.

  • Who would have thought a super-strong green giantess would become a successful lawyer?

  • Tony Stark, whether as the billionaire playboy, or as Iron Man, is no monster. But when his armor became so advanced it gained a mind of its own, that's a whole different story.

  • Once a minor Daredevil villain, Copperhead became a demon after his death.

  • Much like Copperhead, Quentin Beck seems to have become a powerful demon after he died. Is this just another trick by the master illusionist, or is something more sinister at work?

  • The only thing worse than brain-eating zombies is brain-eating zombies with super powers!

  • Once a successful coffee baron, Simon Garth became a prisoner in his own body thanks to a voodoo curse. Now, he fights the supernatural while searching for the peace of true death.

  • Don't assume this is just another crazed mummy on the loose. This one's a good guy!

  • More properly known as the Frankenstein Monster, this golem has met his fair share of super-heroes.

  • Marvel's Wolf Man, monsters are nothing new to Jack Russel.

  • A Hawaiian shark-god with a taste for Super-Boy.

  • The only thing worse than a man-eating shark is one that's humanoid, super-intelligent, and psychic!

  • Where would a list about monsters be without the personification of death itself?

  • Formerly a biochemist, now a reptilian monster.

  • All dinosaur-man awesomeness aside, what kind of parent names their kid Vincent Stegron?

  • It's a giant yeti that fought Godzilla!

  • A super-intelligent gorilla.

  • Once a skilled mob boss, he plead insanity to get out of jail. Great idea, until he was committed to Arkham and got in a fight with Mr. Freeze. Now, with a face that resembles a shark, he truly is insane, and once again controls the criminal underworld as Great White Shark. Oh, the irony.

  • What happens when you revive dead heroes and villains and give them one of the most powerful weapons in the universe? This.

  • A cannibalistic rat-man.

  • Shortly before his death, the original Tarantula, Anton Miguel Rodriguez, was mutated into an actual spider-man.

  • Once a minor Batman villain, Killer Moth sold his soul to Neron to become a true moth-man, Charaxes.

  • Much like his father, the Harry Osborn of the Ultimate universe has become a mutated monstrosity, ascending to the role of his universe's Hobgoblin.

  • This demon once possessed the fourth Hobgoblin, before splitting from him to become a depraved supervillain on his own.

  • A werewolf prince of Asgard and lover of Wolfsbane.

  • One of the most bizarre creatures of Marvel Comics, and the name of the guy making this list!

  • The archenemy and killer of Santa Claus. I couldn't make this up if I tried.

  • Although not a true werewolf, Wolfsbane does have a lot of the same abilities.

  • Although formerly only half vampire, Blade has gained new powers and a new burden when he was bitten by Morbius.

  • Although not a true vampire, Morbius still has many of their abilities.

  • She may look relatively normal, but make no mistake. This human/plant hybrid is truly a monster.

  • An alien werewolf as Man-Wolf.

  • An insect-like alien conqueror from the Negative Zone.

  • A warlord from the Negative Zone, and Annihilus' rival.

  • If Captain Planet was a man-eating shark, he would be Hookjaw.
