Name: Goes by Benkei Jun-fan
Age: Unknown (varies, physically)
Birthplace: Unknown
Height: ~5’3”
Weight: ~120 lbs
No one, not even he, knows exactly where he comes from. His true name, if he was ever given one, has been lost, but he has taken to being called Benkei Jun-fan as homages to the legendary Japanese warrior-monk as well as the famous Chinese martial arts instructor and philosopher. Whether from an accident or just a side effect of his condition, he’s afflicted with a sporadic form of amnesia and has trouble with memory. He seems to remember and forget events and people completely randomly. This seems to coincide with another abnormal condition, where his age and appearance themselves shift about in a random manner. On any given day, he may hold the look and intelligence of a two-year-old, and on the next he’s a hundred, and twenty-seven on the next. Sometimes he may hold an appearance for days, weeks, or months at a time; others, he changes on a day by day basis. There’s no discernible pattern to this and as far as can be told, no solution.
Skills & Abilities
Kantai ashi (fleet foot): Already he is able to move at godlike speeds and superior reflexes; he is supplemented by the ability to alter the flow of time relative to himself, making him seem even faster, though he still moves at a normal speed. Everything else is simply relatively slower. And because he actually slows time, this negates environmental effects such as friction and other environmental issues such as high impact with air and hydrogen molecules that would otherwise mean death for anyone without sufficient durability when moving so fast. And though he can slow this relative time to a near standstill, he usually doesn't traverse backward in time. In addition to this manipulation over time, he alters other natural forces to differing degrees, including things like friction and gravity, allowing for higher jumps or possibly making himself immovable, or even more easily mobile.
Tajigen kussetsu (multidimensional refraction): A technique that allows the user to see and “reach” into parallel dimensions and to open “windows," allowing interactions between dimensions, though he can only maintain interactions for brief moments at a time before the windows close. Signature move using this involves a single sword strike in this world. Reaching between dimensions bends reality, causes several concurrent overlapping strikes from multiple directions. These parallel strikes cannot be perceived by the other senses unless felt directly, most often appearing as pain, welts, bruises and marks from out of nowhere on stricken target areas. Attempts at blocking the one visible strike have no bearing on the other strikes’ success and the only way to truly avoid it is to be completely out of range of the entire attack. Most preferred usage of this requires level ground, making able to strike from more areas.
Inga kankei o kirikaeru (reverse causality): This technique requires a higher degree of focus and uses more energy, and is only used when deemed necessary. It works by defying logic and reality, reversing the flow of causality. In effect, once complete focus has been achieved and the technique is in use, the outcome has already been determined. By reversing cause and effect means, the cause sword stroke follows after the effect of the strike having hit. The result comes first, the action course afterward, making blocks and dodges completely ineffective. Because of this, the best defense is to not allow proper use of the technique in the first place.
Seirai no jikan ga henkō (Innate time Alter) - A special technique, related in a way to the Kantai ashi. It allows Benkei to separate the passage of time inside a designated space from the "flow of time" in the outside world, most often concentrating temporal shifts within the body. It operates on three distinct, closely related, but separate principles: Taikō, Todokōru, and Kasoku.
- Kasoku (Accel) - In addition to the Kantai ashi, it is the utter reverse and opposite of Taikō. Kasoku accelerates time flow to induce an increase in speed relative to everything around a particular point. The field is as big or small as needed, but usually focused around an entire singular person or object. In addition to his own natural speeds, he can use his own physical skills and reaction speed at a level far above human limitations. Blood flow, hemoglobin metabolism, and muscle movement may all be affected at the same time, or separately within systems.
- Todokōru (Stagnate) - An in-between relation of Taikō and Kasoku, Todokōru acts like the Kantai ashi, but works on a more active level. Whereas the ashi cuts off certain connections with outside forces, Todokōru always maintains complete connection with all forces. Reduction of heart rate occurs to such a point that even he barely feels it, and reducing his metabolism to the point where body temperature cools quickly enough that he is precisely room temperature. Because the body moves so slowly, the sounds it makes are virtually nonexistent. Because of these properties, Todokōru makes for an excellent stealth ability.
- Taikō (Regress) - Also somewhat related to Inga kankei o kirikaeru, Taikō reverses the flow of time within a focused bounded field. Only within that field does time reverse, and it continues as normal outside of the chosen area. Rapid reversals of entire movements make for flawless repititions in positions. Not merely a linear manipulation, Benkei can choose specific points in time to which a flow is altered, akin to skipping through chapters and scenes within a movie, rather than simple rewind. The favored use of Taikō involves reversing time flow within or around a wound, allowing recovery from any type of damage, no matter the nature. This is a more effective method than typical healing abilities, and even Kasoku, because rather than actually recovering, Taikō makes it so the damage never even occurred. By completely reversing the time inside a specific portion of his mind, it would be possible to perfectly memorize a movement, conversation, piece of written text, etc. for a period of time.
Equipments
“I would not trade her for anything. Not even the world.”
Heiwa shugi-sha: A katana, called “pacifist.” With a 28.7 cm hilt and a 73.1 cm blade, this sword of unknown origin is indestructible and has the capability to cut through anything, save for human flesh. The blade would appear to be sharp enough, and has on occasion cut through titanium armored plating, but has never once made a cut on the skin of a person. It manages blunt trauma quite nicely, though. While many swordsmen, upon learning of the nature of the blade, dismiss it as useless, Benkei says that he would carry “her” for as long as he could, and considers it an honorable privilege to be able to wield. He bears a special connection with the sword, so only he would be able to wield it. The only exception to this would be if he allowed someone part-time usage, or offered it as a gift.
Nibui: The sheath that accompanies Heiwa shugi-sha. Not indestructible, but it is highly durable and can negate the force of many attacks. Though somewhat flexible, it has been used for defense and as a blunt object at times.
Sometimes he carries various fireworks to use as a distraction, or to put on a show. Caution, as they are illegal in some places. Includes things like mini dynamites up to bright, screeching cannons.
