I agree with the video, Season 1 was the better story, but I also liked season 2. The problem with season 2 was it had some great ideas, but some of those ideas were poorly executed at times. Like the video pointed out I liked the expended roster and most characters were interesting even though the amount of time we got to see many of these characters was brief. The only character I definitely didn't like was Arsenal aka the real Roy Harper. He was really annoying.

I can't find a full transcript, but sources have pointed out that that the discussion was about welfare and Santorum response was that, " ”I don’t want to make Black people’s lives better by giving them other people’s money".

Hey Xyber,

You said that a man made a racist comment at CPAC and that the comment was unchallenged and nobody was outraged. I understand that was what one of the panelists said, but that guy was out and out lying to you. The host, if you will rewatch the clip you shared, actually corrected him on that because at least the host was not comfortable with out and out lies. If you will watch the clip I am sharing with you, this is the original video. This one member of the audience does make a racist comment, and the entire crowd gasps, turns on him, and stare at him with mouth agape laughing at how ludicrous his words are. You can even hear somebody in the audience say, "Seriously?"

Look, I can give you a laundry list of why the Republican's are dirt bags right now. I'm not saying they are good people, but the left is benefiting immensely from everybody who buys into the idea that Republicans are racists. The reality is that the left is just as bad in nearly every area as the right even on race. As long as you are in the mentality of, "The left is my protector against the evil right racists," you are probably going to be blinded to the very real problems in our country, such as the massive debt, that people on both the left and the right agree is a huge problem, but while the R's and D's have the common people arguing about stupid issues like this, they are laughing all the way to the bank.

LOL. Batwatch, I actually knew you were going to say that. I actually get my news from CNN, I just used MSNBC because the video I found online summed up the argument I was trying to make. I'm not blind to all the other issues in the country, I just think this one is pertinent to the current thread. It's not a "The left is my protector against the evil right racists" It's more of a "let's support the party who is vigilant against racism vs. supporting the party that complacently accept or even encourages racism". I know it might not seem like a big deal to some (no offense), but believe it or not there is real racism in this country and if your not vigilant against it we believe it will bite us in the @ss. So like US debt and unemployment and border control and the gun debate and Iran and N. Korean getting nukes and "the two state solution for Israel and Palestine" and China and the EU's own financial crisis and the Arab Spring, etc. etc. etc. Race matters. Even as we speak the Supreme Court is considering abolishing the Voting Rights Act.

I think you misunderstand, yes the crowd was surprised maybe even offended, but they did not engage or try to stop the man making his racist comments. One person even applauded him. But the primary point wasn't the response to his comments by itself. The point the MSNBC panel was trying to make was in regards to the response to the his racist comments in comparison to the audiences response to Kimberly Brown's attempt to ask a question. Perhaps listening to how the crowd responds to her attempt to ask a question will allow you to better understand the disparity. It's not that this crowd isn't capable of getting riled up, it's that racism isn't something that is of particular concern to them. I know that you don't like links, but I ask that you make an exception. I can't find any versions of the audiences verbal assault on Kim Brown on video. I couldn't find anything on Youtube or anything that I can embed on this site. I can only find the audio in this link so please give it a chance. I don't usually watch MSNBC, but I think that the audio proves that the MSNBC panels views were pretty accurate. The audio comes in two parts. For the 1st part you can skip to about minute 9:00 of the video and then continue (that leaves a minute of audio, but it's important) Then continue onto part 2 of the audio which is the meat of my argument. The first part of part one doesn't have anything relevant to our discussion and/or it has things you heard in the video you posted.

For horror comics I definitely recommend Animal Man and Swamp Thing.

I agree. These comics are visually gruesome. really disgusting concepts but really imaginative.

I never read Man Thing, but I think Swamp Thing from DC is similar and its very good. I also recommend you check out Valiant comics. They release great comics.

You should also try the New 52's Swamp Thing and Animal Man. They crossover with one another. Really great reads. I couldn't put them down and they are highly recommended. Start with issue #1 for both and work your way to the present.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this....

I don't know about pre-52 Animal Man, but current Animal Man isn't too powerful. It's his daughter that's the real powerhouse. She can literally resurrect herself and other animals from the dead, and this is just the tip of the iceberg in regards to her powers. Basically she's integral to the survival of the DCnU's Earth.

Basically the New 52 Animal Man and Swamp Thing comic books are a type of super-zombie horror comic. Similar to Green Lanterns Blackest Night, but completely separate In the DCnU there are three forces constantly struggling against one another. Technically none of them are evil (or atleast that's what the comics say, even though some of the art says otherwise), but sometimes one force gains a significant advantage over the other two forces and it's up to those other two forces to restore the balance of power.

They are called The Red, The Green, and The Black.

The Green represents all plant life. Swamp Thing is the avatar of the green and the protector of all plant life on earth.

The Red represents all animal life on earth. Animal Man's daughter is the avatar and protector of the Red. Of course because she is way to young to take up her responsibilities, The parliament The Red gave Animal Man his powers so he could protect his daughter. Of course Animal Man only has a fraction of his daughters power. Basically his daughter is all that stand between the zombie apocalypse and all animal life on earth.

The Black aka The Rot is the power of death. Antoine Arcane was the avatar of The Rot, but he recently lost his power because he was corrupt and really evil. Basically he causes a zombie apocalypse in the DCnU and Swamp Thing and Animal Man team up to stop him. Arcane's daughter, Abigail Arcane has taken his place as avatar of The Rot. She's basically a good avatar of The Rot.

It's a really good book. You should read Swamp Thing and Animal Man. Technically the Frankenstein comic book was also part of this story line as well. but I couldn't get into it.

@warpimp: Actually the disconnect in politics and in pop culture (i.e. comic books) are related to one another. They are symptomatic of the same problem.

@batwatch:

With Santorum, I don't understand your point at all. You are saying it is racist for Santorum to try to help people get jobs?

Santorum spoke with a group of constituents about black people and welfare.

The problem is that instead of talking to people of all races that were dependent on entitlement programs he was singling out African Americans, basically stereotyping them in a way that was deliberately condescending. Here is the full quote.

Santorum told the GOP crowd, ”I don’t want to make Black people’s lives better by giving them other people’s money, I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn their money and provide for themselves and their families, The best way to do that is to get the manufacturing sector of the economy rolling”

I could stop and explain each point to you, but obviously we don't want to get derailed. But the fact that you don't see it is exactly what the problem is (no offense). This video speaks to what I'm saying. In a CPAC presentation called "Are you tired of being called a racist" someone made a racist comment. While I'm sure you'll point out that this one man's comments don't reflect the views of all GOP members, what many commentators point out is that no one in the room was outraged enough to act in a way that illustrated that they didn't tolerate those kind of views in the GOP. ,Yet when a black liberal woman gets up to speak the room of GOP members are quick to heckle her and force her into not make a statement. They are outraged when a liberal tries to speak, but they aren't outraged when someone makes a racist comment? It's because they feel this is acceptable behavior. This is the problem with comic books.

In the same way you can't see racism in GOP politics people don't see the racism in comics. They either are in a state of denial like you are or they don't feel any outrage. For DC comics, as long as it doesn't effect their bottom line they will continue to act this way. Like GOP politicians, various forms of media like comic books actually are pandering to minority hating comic book readers. They are targeting this demographic.

The reality show Comic Book Men, on AMC also panders to racists and is symptomatic of the problem I'm talking about. Look at how they pick on Ming Chen. Some people try to rationalize how Mr. Sloppy picks on Ming by suggesting it's just a sign of affection between friends, but in truth it's designed to attract a certain demographic. The producers could easily tell Mr. Sloppy and other instigators to stop cause it projects the wrong image (a racist one), but they don't because that's exactly the image they want to project.

One explanation you could use to explain there ability perceive where they are going when they travel at FTL speeds is to compare there abilities to that of starships. If you do that then you might assume that they calculate their flight path in advance before they actually accelerate to FTL speeds. In the specific case of the Flash, he can phase through any unforseen obstructions that move in front of his path.

I hadn't even thought about this. This could actually apply to all FTL travel. I'm a little too lazy to look it up ( :D ), but I read part of this book about "the science of super heroes" and in a chapter talking about Kitty & Flash phasing through solid objects, they said that when at/near light-speed, the quantum probabilities that the actual matter of all your atoms would be lined up to pass through the empty space in another solid object would be near-100%, so simply by running at light/FTL speeds at an object, Flash would pass through it ("vibrating" through was just comic-talk invented by writers). So in theory Superman could fly FTL through space and just pass through planets or any other object. How he knows when to stop, is another question all together. But at least we have "avoiding obstacles" out of the way.

It's is actually a good thing he pointed that out. But my follow up question would be how does flash save people. I remember a scan where he saved a lot of people from a nuclear bomb in pico seconds (ftl speeds). And would that have to do with seeing who you're saving?

Maybe we are looking at it from the wrong perspective. While he'd look like he was moving really fast to us, to him we'd look like we were moving really slow. The best example I could come up with was from an episode of Batman TAS featuring the Clock King. I think the episode was called "Time out of Joint". While Clock King doesn't have superspeed in these videos I think that the abilities he uses might be similar to that of other FTL superheroes.

Also, in regards to there ability to see. Another possibility is that they use tachyons or some other FTL particle to some how sense. Tachyons are particles that move faster then light.

@titantempest: What are dark and edge comics? Can you list some examples?
