(Venom#38+ SPOILERS)

So it was revealed that the Venom clone created in 2003 and "destroyed" lived on. It was consumed by the original Venom symbiote and recently spit it back out to merge with Andi Benton, Flash Thompson's upstairs neighbor and high school gym student.

I'm a huge Brock fan. Didn't care for Gargan. Loved Anti-Venom. Love Flash Thompson Venom. Don't care for Mania at all. Don't really like Eddie Brocks version of Toxin (both looks of and his reasoning for keeping Toxin after he was literally just on a symbiote killing spree)

So would you guys like to see Flash lose the original Venom symbiote as it goes to Brock and then the Venom symbiotes clone leave Mania and go back to Flash? Is there another outcome you're wishing for?

Personally I would like to see a return of Anti-Venom. I like Brock-Venom the most but I feel that it's time to move on. The writers would also likely fall back into the "Brock is a psychotic lunatic merged with a monster" instead of the version where Brock is battling the symbiotes influence while trying to become a hero. I REALLY loved how in Anti-Venom: New Ways To Live they returned Eddie to his sanity as well as his struggle to prove himself a hero instead of a monster. They continued portraying Anti-Venom as this, which really got my hopes up, up until Spider-Island where they made him a self righteous religious lunatic and have continued this religous lunatic direction up to his current Toxin iteration.

Shown: Spider-Man still believes Brock to be a villain so Anti-Venom ties him up so that Brock can take down Crime Master without interruption and prove to Spider-Man that he has changed and wishes only to do good.

Wait, it was Avi Arid who pushed for Venom? Ug. He's the guy pushing for the Venom movie as well. This could still end well but it just makes me nervous. I mean, did he want to rush Venom out there and think that his handling in SM3 would be good? Was it Arid's decision for Venom being the main villain and Raimis decision to keep Sandman and Harry? See, if Arid was for having it focus on Venom only and Raimi still wanted to keep the others then I understand. They met in the middle and it turned out horribly. If Arid thinks a screen appearance is all it takes, then I have little hope for this new Venom movie.

I just hope this Venom movie doesn't get the same treatment as the Amazing Spider-Man movies. I'm sure I'm one of the few but I just couldn't like them. Not even Andrew who everyone seems to love. Yes, he looks extremely close to how Peter is portrayed in the comics and I love that. I don't like his portrayal as Peter to be a cocky hipster with a Brooklynn accent. The cocky part is my biggest issue. He's cocky even before he gets super powers.

Key points they need in the Venom movie:

Eddie Brock should be portrayed as one who feels lost and alone. He grew up always trying to impress his father yet never succeeded. This shaped who he is today and he seeks recognition for the person he's become. He still is unwilling to hurt others for personal gain though (unlike Raimis Brock). He's always seen himself as a victim and is very adamant about protecting the innocent. It doesnt matter too much why he hates Spidey in the film as long as he has a justifiable reason from his perspective. As in, if we were in Brocks shoes we would assume Spidey had wronged us as well. The symbiote itself should be what drives Venom insane. His life spirals as his rage and anger take over everything and destroy the perfect man he tried to be. Eventually he realizes the monster he's become and decides to focus his attention on protecting the innocent instead of seeking vengeance or personal recognition. He then sets off to (presumably) San Fransisco where he becomes their lethal protector.

End

I'm not trying to form a story here but instead give an idea of the character himself. The 90's Venom comics gave engaging personality to him which was later disregarded as they pushed on making him solely a giant brute monster. If you've read Anti-Venom: New Ways to Live this is the Eddie Brock they set up before. This is the only version of Brock that will succeed on the big screen as he's the only version of Brock where he's more than a slobbering play-doh Hulk.

I'm eager to hear all of your thoughts on this.

(Edit: Also if Venom doesn't refer to himself as "we", I'm going to lose my sh#$)

I agree, the Toxin situation was handled poorly. Honestly he should have never be striped of the Anit-Venom. Take away his ability to instantly cure, yes because its kinda an all-powerful ability but not take it away completely. Since they did however the next best thing would be him actually getting his Venom symbiote back and, ya know, using it for good. I dont like this "i have to kill my other" Eddie so much. Let's go back to cleaning up the streets from scum by killing them all. Eddie has changed so much through the comics and honestly he hasnt gotten much better. Wheres our young, buff and healthy Eddie who's livid with his cause? Instead we have this weak old man... I seriously would have prefered he die in his prime when he was saving the day as Venom.... on a side note....MAN his stink as Anti-Venom was short lived as hell! After his run with Punisher i was convinced he was about to become a rising star with a long(er) run..

Remember when Venom used to be spidermans archnemesis and have his own comic that went through the trials of a man who always tried his hardest to better the planet and protect the innocent but was seen as a lunatic serial killer for his unconventional ways (just like Punisher except using his predatory appearance and demeanor to inflict fear as well)?

His character was so unique. Like all symbiote carriers he initially had to fight for control of his own body, struggle to prevent himself from harming those he wished not to. Yet unlike other carriers he learned to meet an equalibrium with his symbiote, a true symbiosis. They agreed that the killing of those who act against the innocent was both satisfying and righteous.

He then became so close to his symbiote that they were practically lovers. All they needed was each other. They each had their own personality and were like two vigilantes in the body of one versus other symbiotes like carnage who seemed dominated by one being. Best friends they were. Like batman and robin but they werent. Like dr jekyll and mr hyde but they weren't. They were two individuals and one at the same time. "There is no Eddie Brock! Only Venom!"-Venom

Then came the death of our beloved Venom. Although he lost his symbiote to the scorpion (really?) he soon gained the new alias of Anti-Venom with powers of his old symbiote and beyond. At first i was horrified to see my favorite character thrown away and rebranded just for the sake of refreshing an old formula (yet i did have to admit his look was at least better than the rest of the symbiotes). Yet i was able to adjust. His personal dilemma of doing the wrong thing when he intended the best was easily seen during his time with the punisher and his ignorance in self proclaimed innocence was finally unveiled and replaced with the desire to make amends for all the evil deeds he commited as Venom. This new eddie brock came across exactly so - a new eddie brock. He was back on his mission to save the world. Once i was able to accept the fact that our Venom was laid to rest i also realized how awesome eddie now looked.

So finally here we are. Flash Thompson has taken Venoms name regardless of the fact that it was a combined name, NOT the symbiotes. Eddie Brock lost his powers/awesome suit combo. Brock is merged with the Toxin symbiote to come out another generic hybrid living with the carcass alias of a previous character. Marvel now cares more about Flash Thompsons "venom" more than the original man who created the legend! I'd understand if they killed eddie off back when his symbiote left him but the two are both alive yet Flash has his own series while Brock is left in the dust only to be shown sparsely in others comics and always made a bafoon. Marvel wonders why their Anti-Venom was shown little interest. It was an unnecessary dramatic change. Yet they do it again when people (referring to not myself, but the majority of comments ive read on CV) finally have warmed up to him.

Overall i hate this flip flop, multiple u-turn, a few flips, direction theyve taken with Brock. I'd like the savage six if Eddie came out as he came in. I'd be fine with the twist of loosing his suit as long as he gets it back. Fine with the symbiote attempting to possessing him. NOT pleased that the toxin symbiote is thrown on to eddie as if the guys at marvel thought that combining two old untouched characters would gain reader fame by combining them. I'd rather have Brock die with some respect than be used as what seems like random fan fic turned cannon. R.I.P. real Eddie Brock
