What's a good way to end the week? Receive not one, but two tax rebates? Sip on some fine single malt? Get your free Comic Vine t-shirt through the post... and it fits! Yes, I've had a good Friday! But what made it even better was this little video.
Improv Everwhere have been entertaining random New Yorkers since 2001. They have a great sense of humour, and show plenty of moxy as they recreate famous movie scenes around the city. But talk is cheap! The proof is in the video:
Last week saw the daily announcements of the last 5 Marvel themed Little Big Planet costumes. It's been nearly 2 months since Marvel first announced their plans to release 20 Sack Boy outfits based on some of their most popular characters. Slowly, they released info & art of all the characters in batches of 5. At long last, all 20 have been announced and the final 5 are available to buy.
All Sack Boy costumes are compatible with both the upcoming Little Big Planet 2 and the original Little Big Planet. If you don't want to buy all 5 characters, then worry not! You can purchase each character costume individually. However, the magic about Little Big Planet is that you can customise to your heart's content. Each costume has several different components so you can mix & match the look of your Sack Boy. Just think of all the different combinations you can create using all 20 costumes!
As you can probably tell, I couldn't fit 'Invisible Woman' into the blog title. Anyway, it seems that Marvel have changed the way they're pimping the new costume kits. Before they announced one per day until the final day when all 5 are ready for purchase. Instead, they're waiting till the pack is ready all in one go.
As before, you can purchase each 'character' individually, or in the kit of all 5. Each comes with a series of different accessories that form to make one whole character, or that can be mixed & matched to your personalised wishes.
Wolverine's Boots, Adamantium Claws, Mask, Skin, Shoulder Pads & Belt
Released on 21 July 2010, this kit contains costumes to make your Sack Boy look like Spider-Man, Human Torch, Elektra, Ghost Rider & Thor. Once again, the kit will be compatible with the original Little Big Planet & the sequel, Little Big Planet 2. Each character has a variety of different accessories that can be mixed & matched. These consist of:
Little Big Planet Marvel Teaser Poster You can tell when Marvel are building up to the release of a new Costume Kit; the character designs appear once per day. After 5 days are over, the Costume Kit comes out. With 20 characters, it makes sense to release a series of 4 Costume Kits with 5 character costumes in each kit.
Comic Vine has already covered the build up of the first couple of characters, but the decision was made not to cover each character as & when they're announced. After all, that would be 20 threads! Instead, there'll be a large super reveal of all 20 characters when they've all been finally announced. Hopefully by then, we'll see this mystery poster filled in... In the meantime, I was given the go ahead to do this mini series of blogs for each kit (I just haven't got around to it for a couple of weeks, sorry!).
Here are the first 5 Sack Boy costumes: Iron Man, Thing, Mystique, Doctor Octopus & Daredevil. The Little Big Planet Marvel Costume Kit 1 was release on 06 July 2010 (at the same time as the Marvel Level Kit). It is compatible with both the original Little Big Planet, and the up-coming Little Big Planet 2, and consists of:
Iron Man's Rocket Boots, Gauntlets, Iron Man's, Skin & Armour
Every month I enjoy scouring through the new solicitations, taking the covers, cropping out the watermarked banners & uploading them into Comic Vine's galleries. Mostly because I'm so bloody obsessive compulsive about getting the right art in the right characters' galleries. And in the right artists' galleries too.
Anyway, every month there is a pattern. Dark Horse & Image issue their solicitations a day or two before 'The Big Two'. The 'Ultimate' and/or 'X-Men' will come out just before the DC solicits. Lastly, there's Marvel.
But Marvel are really dragging their feet this month. Why? One reason... San Diego! Last year Marvel left great big grey gaps where the cover images should have been, with nothing but a "TBC" next to them. So I'm guessing this year they're purposefully waiting for all their big announcements at SDCC. But I'm getting impatient. I want the solicitations now, dammit!
Who ever wanted a pet when they were a kid? Who ever wanted a Kenner AT-AT...? Who ever wanted a pet AT-AT...??
I love this, it's just so quirky, geeky & thoroughly charming! I don't know Patrick Boivin (the chap who made it), but I believe many people will be familiar with his Iron Baby video. AT-AT Day Afternoon is simply a work of genius.
I'm already stumped & frustrated with the new First Time's A Charm Quests, so I wanted to post this instead.
Although I'm the wrong side of the Atlantic, I know that this weekend is Heroes Con weekend. Skottie Young designed named badges which are just so unbelievably cute!
Skottie Young did the covers to the recent 4-part X-Babies mini series. According to his Twitter, Mr Young says that the owner of the Con Comic shop loved the covers so much that he requested these for the Con's name badges. I thought I'd use Nightcrawler's as my icon to pay tribute to our beloved Fuzzy Elf.
I wonder if anyone else has a favourite? It's hard to choose!
With over 2 years worth of posts, it seemed as good a time as any to give the Main Picture Changing Thread a make-over.
I sort of hijacked it, and turned it into a mini Guide. I seriously doubt that most people will read all the way through it. At least it's a bit more detailed, with a few examples and use of H2 & H3 headers to help.
It took just as much time to remove 26 months worth of requests posts. But now it's a lot more manageable & I'm quite pleased with it :)
If I was Scarlet Witch, I'd cast a spell that would drastically cut the population of.... duplicate threads! And then there wouldn't be any more duplicate threads ever again (except for when G-Man posts about Doctor Who after me ;)
I'm enjoying the Quests. I really REALLY am. But I swear the level of spam has rocketed through the roof since the introduction of Quests. Why? Well, Coffee Talk & Snowballin' of course...
There's been SO MANY duplicate threads in the last 24 hours I've had little time to do anything else. I just hope Viners will be a little more original, a little more clever & a little more creative when it comes to posting new threads from now on... After all, those Secret Quests wont complete themselves ;)
