A Little Rusty

"Ever since the little incident that happened a few months ago, I've been on the run. My safety's been compromised because of a hard drive cutely named 'Jade' planted into my pocket, professional killers have been hired to retrieve the drive..and I don't even know what's in it. I've been able to elude them for quite a while, and had only a few close calls, until yesterday that is.

I was walking down the streets in a fairly populated town in Germany, thinking that the dense crowd would hide me in plain sight. My plan was to leave the country...but not after a meal, but just as I was about to reach my destination, a thunderous boom echoed through the busy streets. The same exact sound I've heard in my 15th mission working as a 'wannabe' mercenary, a 50 caliber rifle that knocked me off my feet and pushed me into an alley. Putting the crowd into a panicked frenzy.

The car alarm was triggered from the vibration and force the rifle expelled, adding to the disorientation I felt. Then I felt a burning sensation in my abdomen...or what was left of it, the pain gradually worsened, then I realize that it was my body realizing what had happened and began sending messages to my brain, that a chunk of your body is missing.

'Move in!' was the command I heard a man gave and I realized what was going on, they were going for Jade. I frantically searched for something I could defend myself with and, lo and behold..I saw a sharp piece of metal, a part of the garbage bin covered in rust. I quickly yanked it out and waited for someone to check on me, the perfect time to use the possum method used by the bravest of cowards

I got to my knees, placing myself in a better position, waiting for the perfect time to attack. And then as soon as I heard the footsteps I turned around and just drove that corroded piece of metal into the guys abdomen, also cutting my hand and fingers in return, and then used the lifeless body of the mercenary as a shield for temporary cover before I could reach a better one.

My injuries had already been fully healed, and I knew that to get out of this little predicament I needed to just wing it...so ladies and gentlemen..that I did. I dropped the corpse to the ground, transferred the hard drive to the back pocket, ensuring that it could get as much protection as I could provide (In this case, skin, tissue, muscles, nerves and bones) and ran across the street from the alley like a mad man, covering my face with both my arms and persisted through the gunfire. I didn't know how many men were firing, but knew that the biggest threat was the 50.cal, which I was expecting this whole time to fire and hit me right in the head. As soon as I was close enough to one of the men, I jabbed the shank through his back, giving it a little wiggle to do as much damage as I could in the little opening I had. During this time, I was literally being torn apart with 9.mm rounds from assault rifles, and since I'm still new to this healing factor thing, it's still a little disturbing seeing parts of your body getting ripped apart and fly through the corner of your eyes.

Using the heavily corroded piece of sharp metal to eliminate the rest of the gunmen, I quickly broke into the building where I hoped the last killer was, and hopping he ran out of bullets shooting the 50.cal rifle at me while I was dispatching his teammates and just didn't feel it earlier, but I highly doubted it.

Upon entering the fifth floor, I saw him, trembling in fear..I couldn't blame him..he literally just witnessed his heavily armed team massacred by a man who he already shot, covered in blood, and holding a rusty piece of metal ripped from the garbage bin. But before I could ask him any questions, he pointed his sidearm on his head and pulled the trigger. Now I'm on the run again. Still clueless in terms of what Jade is storing.

"What in the world did we just read?" A man in a brown coat asked his seatmate, confused and scared.

"I have no frickin clue Tony, but you better just put that little journal back on the seat before he comes back from his bathroom break."
