A super-team (formed years before the debut of Superman) who caused the disaster at Brinkhaven in my forth-coming fan-fic. They are important since said disaster lead to the U.S. government forming S.H.I.E.L.D. and the return to our dimension of Brinkhaven lead to the saga of the Agents of Change in the newly renamed Golden City, the greatest city on Earth.
A mutant born with incredible mental and physical abilities making him the Man of the Future, Adam Blake became the mystery-man known as Captain Comet. The unofficial leader of the Mighty Defenders. He actually survived the destruction of Brinkhaven and his fellow Defenders. Spending years in a self-made expulsion in space, he recently returned to his home world and is not very happy with what he has found.
Simon Williams had everything, and then it was gone. The evil Red Skull promised him ultimate power in exchange for his allegiance. Simon was transformed into Wonder Man, a being of incredible strength and invulnerability, all powered by ionic energy from the Skull's cosmic cube. Unknown until the return of Captain Comet, the Brinkhaven disaster was not caused by the menacing machine known as NME, but Wonder Man. Wonder Man had a change of heart and destroyed NME, but then realized it was him that the Red Skull planned to use all along to destroy his team mates. Wonder Man, overloaded with Ionic power, blew up, taking his team and the city with him. Recently it was discovered that Wonder Man was even more powerful than even the Red Skull realized, and was able to return to the land of the living. Wanting to become a true super-hero, Simon climbs an uphill struggle, as no one really trusts him.
Happy Terrill gained amazing light-based powers after a bizarre accident. Soon a new mystery man debuted called the Ray. Joining the Mighty Defenders, he survived Brinkhaven's trip to another dimension and through their time there he defended the city. When the mysterious being known as War Dancer opened a vortex to return the city, the Ray along with new heroes changed the city into a sterling example of a city, renamed Golden City. Happy was murdered shortly after this under mysterious circumstances. His son soon replaced him in Golden City's new defenders, the Agents of Change.
Mister Terrific was just a normal guy who was of average intelligence and average athletic ability. Terry Sloane never let that get him down, and when he accidently stopped a super-villain known as Sports Master, and being dubbed as Mister Terrific, he decides to become a mystery man and make sure the average citezen got a fair shake. After this the Defender of Fair Play became a member of the Mighty Defenders. Though non-powered, he was the heart and soul of the group. It was his death by NME that caused Wonder Man to change his selfish ways and turn on the Red Skull.
A communications engineer turned mystery man, Larry Jordan became Air Wave who used several electronic devices to fight crime. He died in the Brinkhaven explosion.
A mysterious being appears calling himself the Vision. Seemingly able to teleport from any kind of smoke and with great strength, the being claims to be from another dimension. Thought for years to have died during the Brinkhaven explosion it has recently been learned that he was the Martian Manhunter, who used the Vision identity to first battle crime on Earth. Though sustaining several injuries in the Brinkhaven blast, due to his Martian physiology he eventually healed.
The original Blue Beetle used the Scarab of Anubis to give himself great powers. He actually survived the Brinkhaven blast, but later died when Kobra tried to get the Scarab from him. His friend and former student, Ted Kord took up the Blue Beetle mantel in his honor.
