What are the most important Batman stories?

In your opinion, which Batman stories are most important (The Long Halloween, Year One, etc.)?  Try not to list them all; just the ones that are the most important to Bruce Wayne's history.

Personally, I'd choose: Year One and TLH, the one where Jason dies (what's it called?), and maybe something from Batman, Inc. to give an idea of where he is currently.  There are so many great stories to choose from!

Personally I think HUSH, but then I'm quite partial to the mastermind of the whole event.

Year one obviously.

Knightfall, first an epic failure on his part after burning out and being broken, then a great challenge to return months later as Batman.
Under the Red Hood. Discovering and facing his greatest failure as Batman.
Rip and Return of Bruce Wayne

I'm a big fan of the Hush story too, but I didn't list it because I thought maybe I was too partial.

Yup.TLH and Hush were'nt really that important for the character.Dark Victory though could be right up there.I would also add The man who laughs.

For my money  - Year One...just awesome story telling, but  Death in the Family still gets me as well.
