Swordmasters

A lot of people pick up a blade now and then, but this list is for those whose weapon of choice is a sword (or two or three). This is an unordered list because I can't imagine the time I'd have to spend on the message board if I said who was the best with a sword.

List items

  • You can't beat a blue fuzzy swashbuckler who can use three swords at once. You just can't.

  • Life on Mars always goes better with a blade. Just try to forget the movie.

  • The original blade babe.

  • Kicking ass with an Ebony blade

  • A grandfather to all sword wielding superheros out there.

  • Some call him Marvel's answer to Flash Gordon, but Cyclops' dad had style.

  • Need I say more.

  • Sometimes it is a psychic blade, sometimes a real one, but this English Lady in a Asian ninja body likes to slice and dice.

  • I'll admit, Elfquest got me started in comic books. And there was no elf better with a blade than the Chief of the Wolfriders.

  • My nod to all the Syth lords who welded a lightsaber out there.

  • And you can't forget the Jedi with this little green guy jumping around.

  • Maybe swords aren't always his primary weapon, but he rocks them pretty hard.

  • A barbarian who has stood the test of time.

  • A master who can make any blade almost unbreakeable, but has used both the Black Blade of Muramasa and the Honor Sword of Clan Yashida

  • It is all in the name.

  • Go Joe!

  • Rocking the six arm style.

  • Got to love the Norse gods for keeping sword fighting in style.

  • I always thought he was the coolest of the TMNT

  • Much respect for the Amazon

  • I was never a fan of his two bladed sword, but you can't argue with his skill.

  • Not many can say they forged their own soulsword. Now days it is bigger than she is.

  • Marvel's nod to Errol Flynn.

  • Able to mimic any style, taskmaster has always carried a broadsword.

  • What better to fight vampires with?

  • Nothing like a batwing hilt to drive the point home.

  • Okay, that's it for ninjas in this list.

  • A classic for a reason.

  • You wouldn't think the Hulk's son would need weapons, but there you go.

  • Ending the zombie menace one head at a time.

  • As good as any warrior in Asgard.

  • Who you calling a ho?

  • Despite his cheesy appearance in a disco, he has some moves.

  • The pirate which all others are measured against.

  • While Cutter was great, Skywise is no slouch with a sword.

  • A fallen angel still fighting the good fight

  • It helps to be a champion fencer when you get sucked into Skartaris

  • Sure she was a spin off, but she loves her sword play

  • A classic crusader

  • Another mutant swordsman

  • Do I hear coconuts? But seriously I thought Camelot 3000 was a great series when it came out

  • Every Warlord should be as good with a blade

  • A demon who loves his Twilight Sword

  • Most self respecting avatars of death would carry a scythe, but this one still sticks with her sword

  • So if he had Excalibur, shouldn't he have been off ruling England?

  • I wasn't sure about adding him, because it's kind of a cheat that he gets all the power and never has to practice, but oh well.

  • I liked him back in the Defenders.

  • Foolish samurai warrior.

  • One retcon I liked from the new 52 was that her mother trained her in sword fighting before Amy went to the Gemworld.

  • Kick ass flaming sword...lame Batman.

  • A better Swordsman than the Swordsman was.

  • Loved her in Fables with the Vorpal Sword.

  • Seriously read Fables...it's worth it.

  • Wielder of the Black Rose Sword and HUUUGGGE...tracks of land.

  • Doesn't usually use a sword, but I added him because The Sword of Atom was pretty fun.

  • An alternate version of Union, but with a sword.

  • Who needs a magic lasso when you have the Sword of Night.

  • A master of most forms of war, but he sure can swing a sword.

  • My favorite of the Endless...well after Death of course.

  • She is a frigging warrior nun...take that battle bishop.

  • Yeah I said no more ninjas...so what, she deserves to be on the list.

  • Let's just get Deathstroke and Deadpool in a room and settle this once and for all.

  • Standing sentry on the Rainbow Bridge.

  • A samurai by any other name...

  • Conan has nothing on this barbarian.

  • Wielder of the Phoenix Blade.

  • Top Cow's top assassin.

  • I still like Nightcrawler better.

  • Lesser known creation of Robert E. Howard.

  • Gone, gone the form of man!

  • The master of assassins.

  • One of my top five characters of all time. She doesn't need a weapon often, but when she does, she is great with a sword.

  • Even with one of the most advanced battle suits ever, he makes a lightning sword to fight with.

  • Helps to have ancestors with mystical weapons.

  • It's not the width of the blade, but how you use it.

  • Got to love a sword named Dragonslayer

  • A dark horse in the running.

  • Evil in Wonderland.

  • You don't get to be an old barbarian without being good.

    RIP Terry Pratchett

  • A knight of the Round Table in modern times.

  • A religious zealot who got started because he was pissed at Thor.

  • I just included all of them since most of them are generic ninjas.

  • I like the use of the fencing mask.

  • Does every character have a kid off somewhere following in their footsteps?

  • A sorcerer with a mean scimitar.

  • She has THE sword.

  • A vampire swordsman.

  • It's amazing how many assassins still use swords.

  • A reincarnated death god - an equal opportunity slayer.

  • A shirtless swashbuckler.

  • A knockoff Conan that predates him in comic books.

  • The current AK.

  • He taught Kitty and Logan, so I guess he should make the list.

  • He doesn't have to use a sword, because of the whole creature of the night thing, but he used one well before becoming a vampire.

  • It helps to be able to anticipate someone's next move in a sword fight.

  • Double the fun.

  • Remember he was a knight first.

  • His skill with a blade is more of a defining character trait than if he is gay or not.

  • Following in her father's footsteps.
