The eternal dillemma

...at least until robots take over the world:
Digital or analog? For comic books I mean. I've only used the marvel database online when i'm bored on the internet, reading whatever free issues they have. On the other hand, I no longer have a comic book outlet down the street (it's located about 5 hours south now *sigh*). So is it worth it? Should I buy a marvel account? I mean, god, there's DC and Top Cow and Vertigo too, how can I only subscribe to one publisher?!!? Has anyone else done it? What do you advise??
Thanks viners

I will be a fan of real comic books on paper as long as they exist but on the other hand my comic shop is only 10 to 15 minutes away from where I live so the situation is not quie the same. You could try to order your comics online but then you could also subscribe to Marvel. My advise is buy them online (simply because you have them on paper and can order comics from ALL publishers, Vertigo, DC and Top Cow included). Paper rocks!

@Risky: Thanks for the input! I'll look into ordering them from the net. I really love paper, even though the polar bears are melting :!

The biggest issue with digital is the inability to take advantage of a secondary market (such as it is for comics nowadays) and sharing issues.

The single biggest way to legally read more for less is to share your comics.  Between my siblings, significant other, and her siblings we can keep our costs low but read a wide range of comics.  Some horse trading needs to get done to determine who owns what but it's not hard for civilized adults to hash it out.  When the collection gets too big you sell off what you can and donate the rest for a hefty tax deduction then convert the cash into trades that you want to keep or what not.

The tangible and social aspect of comics is one of the few things that keeps it worthwhile so learning to share makes the hobby more fun and makes you generally a better person.

I want digital for everything else but comics, I must have it on paper. It just feels wrong to me, experiencing this medium through a screen. Also, it hurts the collecting aspect but that is secondary.
