@kyrees Haha yeah, those kicks were insane. Have you got to the final battle yet? One of the most realistic KR fights ever, and one of my favorites.

Cool. Let me know what you think of Agito when you finish. I'm actually finishing Hibiki right now; though I'm stopping at Ep 29, right before the major overhaul. Honestly, it makes me sad that Hibiki will never be a complete show, because these twenty-nine episodes are some of the best tokusatsu I've ever seen.

@veshark: kuuga has that ? hmmm, i might actually have two series in the bucket list now (agito and kuuga).

Yeah, I just finished it, and I highly-recommend the series. Kuuga is portrayed as less like a superhero show, and more like a cop show, and the villains are depicted as serial killers. Many of the episodes go a lot into the social repercussions of Kuuga's actions and the monster murder sprees.

While I consider Agito to be the 'best', I'd say that Kuuga is probably the most 'realistic'. As in, it's the most grounded.

@kyrees

Yeah, I heard the corporate interference mid-season really killed Hibiki.

I think when the Heisei era began with Kuuga, it kinda showed how Kamen Rider was a little more grownup than say...Ultraman or Super Sentai. There were no giant robots or goofy looking monsters. Instead, all you had was a tough hero on his bike going up against monstrous serial killers. Of course there was still humor, but I think the earlier shows took a realer tone by dealing with mature issues as much as superhero fighting. Agito showed bureaucratic office politics and gave us a terrifying conspiracy story. Kuuga delved into the nature of human violence and the repercussions of monsters existing.

Of course, it wasn't super-super-gritty-innovative-dark. I mean, this is still a kids' show after all. But I liked that they put in the effort, and it made Rider a more interesting viewing experience than its other tokusatsu counterparts. Of course, there were times when the serious tone went way overboard....e.g. Faiz.

@kyrees

It's more to do with the tone than anything though. Sure, Fourze might be set in a high-school and all its characters are teenagers, but the mood of the story is very optimistic and somewhat oriented to younger audiences. There's a lot of comedy and themes on friendship, plus a lot of goofier concepts like Fourze's outfit and the whole idea of a moon clubhouse. Basically it lacks the seriousness I feel was present in the earlier seasons.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that these newer series are objectively bad. I'm sure they're very good shows. But me personally, I prefer my Rider to be a little more down-to-earth, I guess? Even when I was watching W - I could tell that while I didn't like the tone or concepts, it still wasn't a bad show by any stretch.

Mm I might try out Kiva, but I've heard that the story was very messy. I'll get around to finishing Blade someday. Right now I might check out Hibiki. What seasons have you seen?

@veshark: have you watched the newer ones like wizard, fourze, OOO, decade and kiva ?

Out of the Early Heisei era, I've seen Kuuga, Agito, Faiz, a little Blade, and Kabuto.

From the Neo-Heisei era, I've only seen W. To be honest, I'm not too big a fan of the newer seasons like Fourze or OOO. I feel like the franchise started getting a little more light-hearted and kiddy with these shows, which sharply contrasted to the earlier Rider seasons.
