9 Rhino- Spidey always had to keep his eye on him or he would go SPLAT!

In Venom's first few appearances, BEFORE the awful writing started to happen ("I'm gonna eat your brains" every two sentences), Spidey never won in a straight up fight against Venom. He always either had help(Fantastic Four, and even Silver Sable's "Wild Pack" one time, though it was unvoluntary), weapons(That sonic blaster gun), and he even faked his death once!

he got spiderman to quit, created the scorpion (who became venom), and is endlessly trying to get the world to take down our favorite wall-crawler.

My list:

10.   Kraven--this anti hero actually defeated spidey. and shows a twisted version of spidermans nobility. one of several villains who is a father of other villains.
9. Mysterio (Quentin Beck)--always got spidey off -guard, actually got him to the point of unmasking, makes spiderman think creatively.   and he gave francis klum a chance to go to the dark side.
8.    Doc Ock--what spidey could have become had it not been for uncle ben and aunt may.
7.   Harry Osborn--a younger foe for spidey, he was once peter's best friend. one person spidey really cares about, yet really fears. i guess harry feels the same about pete, actually.
6.    The Venom Symbiote--First got spidey's dark side, then made a bunch of fierce opponents, and eventually came up with one of spidey's few allies--the amazing anti-venom
5.   Kingpin--while primarily a Daredevil foe, he also was the one who nearly killed aunt may (which resulted in spider's marriage ending). and shows that organized crime is the biggest foe. and remember, he is only a great daredevil foe because all of his characteristics were revealed in fights with spidey. oh and one more thing--it was his manipulations that ruined spidey's romance with the black cat
4.   Norman Osborn--launched a darker age with a fiercer villain, very dangerous and powerful foe, did all of dark reign. and he was once spidey's foster father, and trained harry into being another green goblin
3. Lizard--an ally at times, but also an enemy, lizard shows that the same people spiderman must fight are the ones he loves and must save.   Also showed spider the greatest foe is within. and made the spiderlizard.
2. J. Jonah Jameson-symbolizes misinterpretation of spiderman and the press attacking a real hero. after all, he is the one who drove spiderman into (temporary) retirement.
1. The Burglar--taught the lesson with great power comes great responsibility.    Also gave spidey his greatest loss (yeah, i think it hurt him more than loosing gwen).

Carnages current strength is not 90 tons...it is 0. Carnage also does not use webbing.

Well here is my explanation for all my choices
1. Norman: Been there from the start. started minor as a villain making a name for himself but got more involved with spider-man making his life a real hell. KIlled Peter's love Gwen, Attacked May, killed many, gave birth to harry who would be a villain later on. Created the goblin serum which would be used by many in the years to come. The symbolism of the goblin lives on even if Norman was not around. Plus he has wealth and now, at this time power. Governmental power. Plus he did that thing with peter's parents, and did it with that clone of gwen. Plus he is a brilliant scientist. He has many factors that some heros wish they had, and with these gifts he could have done good. But he went reverse.

2. The Symbiote: With great power comes great responsibility, but sometimes when you get major power like that, that responsibility become too tough to handle. And what makes that power even worse, is if that power has a mind of it's own. This power is the symbiote. After being rejected by spider-man it showed that the power not only had a mind of it's own but also emotions and sometimes emotions can be the dangerous weapon. And so after that, that weapon found new ammo, ammo by the name of Eddie Brock. Both Eddie and the Symbiote want revenge against Spider man and twice the vengeance mixed in one twice the danger. Eddie would have this power for the longest of time. This power would also multiply in various ways including creating the symbiotes in the seperation anxiety story line, and creating Carnage. that power would later move on to mac gargan who also hated spider-man. Who knows what villain this deadly power might go to next.

3. MOrlun: He ripped his eye out and nearly killed him. He should so be up there.

4. Jason Macendale: This is a man has fought web head various times. First as the Jack o lantern. then he became hobgoblin which was his popular version of himself. As if being a deadly merc wern't enough, he wanted more power and had the power of a demon which would cause all types of hell. Later on that demon would leave Jason creating a whole new bad guy the Demogoblin. Then he became that cyber version of himself later on. Also what makes his deadly is not only the fact that he never gives up but the fact that he is more then willing the risk his own life just to become better and more feared.

5. Shocker: A man who go out of jail thanks to a weapon he made from scrap in a cell. just random material and he knew how to make it. Just like Strak in the cave with his suit. Plus there fight were pretty even a lot of the time. Also the fact that he wanted nothing really to do with spidey plays a big factor. He just cared for money. But also he was not mental, and in many ways a sane man can be the most dangerous man you can think of.

6. Morbius: There were many times he could have killed him with ease. He hypnotized him with easy taking his blood, and could have taken the whole thing killing spidey. Also there was a second time he could have done during what a believe was around christmas. Plus in one issue of Morbius, Spider-Man does say to himself that aside from other villains he fought, Morbius really scared him.

7. Kraven: He did get spidey, buried him alive and everything. He proved himself the better man.

8. Monster outside, a REALLY BAD MONSTER. But a friend is inside. A villain like that is hard to kill. You kill the bad guy and at the same time you kill you friend.

9. Mac Gargan: Was the scorpion and is now Venom. Keepin the symbiote legacy alive.

10. Carange: Started the deadliest massacre in NYC. Plus broke Spidey's rips. Plus Spidey never really got him good aside from their first battle. Carange was stopped by Venom during the massacre, stopped by Toxin, and met his end at the hands of sentry. the symbiote died in space but cassidy may have lived. He is still deadly how ever is just a powerless man once again.

Well there's two ways of looking at this, what are the villains that are his top from the perspective of who's achieved the most over Spider-Man or merely what are your favorites. So I suppose I could make two lists. I'll just go with my favorites for now. I really don't have an order after my top 4 though and sometimes my preferences change...though I steadily have never cared much for Vulture and especially Carnage:

1. Mysterio
2. Doc Ock
3. Green Goblin
4. Kraven the Hunter
5. Electro
6. Shocker
7. Rhino
8. Lizard
9. Kingpin
10. Venom

Honorable mention: Chameleon - only because no one has mentioned him and I do quite like him, though he wouldn't be one of my tops.

Im not fussed as to any particular order but Rhino needs to be way higher in current canon after that Joe Kelly arc. Sweet jesus that fleshed him out into one of the most tragic and interesting characters in Spideys rogues gallery.
