@Vance Astro:
Yeah,.. they messed him up good in the name of storywriting,.. then discarded him casually. (Not to mention weakened his power down from what the thunderbolt used to do with Johnny Thunder.)

Sigh,.. Now I'm irritated AND depressed.

I admit irritation when I first read this issue. Superman # 179 showcased a character that could have been developed and buried the ABM (Angry Black Man) stereotype once and for all by airing a few concerns.

Instead,... Unlike OTHER Heroes Superman encounters, we have no access to his thoughts, no background on his motives, and barely anything on his methods.

He appears to be on a power level that we would have seen him in the countless crisis that have hit the DC Universe  since 2000 or so,... and he was well known in the Black community so Someone like John Henry Irons or John Stewart Would have called on him to pinch hit while they did JLA stuff -  But except for this ONE ISSUE we don't see hide nor hair of him.

He is abrasive and borderline rude to Superman,... and we don't know why,.. but it is emoted by the writers to be a purely "color-thing"  where he resents Superman for being white AND being on his turf.

Speaking from experience I need a better reason to be openly hostile to someone trying to help.

In the past,.. Black Lightning and John Stewart (Green Lantern) have had similar attitudes but they were easily explained away.

In Black Lightnings case,.. he had been crime fighting for a bit and didn't appreciate the JLA interrupting his work on the streets and wasting his time "testing him" before explaining that they were the villians he had been fighting AND offering him membership in the JLA like they were doing him a favor,... pretty condescending as far as I was concerned,.. and I was a child when I read it.

In John Stewarts case,.. Hal Jordan exibited surprise one time too many that John could even use the ring effectively,... Again, pretty condescending.

Once it was explained to the "Other heroes"  why the "black" heroes had their panties in a wad, Attitudes shifted and the two were treated from that point on like most other heroes in the DC universe.

Here's my issue:
A Powerful force for good is introduced in a UNIVERSE where the average ratio is like 12 to 1 as far as minority heroes - and DC saw no reason to fill in the character or EXPLAIN at least what he deal was?

So I'm cruising thru comic vine and see this hero listed,.. and the short on him just sneers at what he's about like he's really a criminal play-acting ???

I was booted out of my normal state of neutality by the way he was depicted here and added a picture and tweaked his bio.

Jeeez ,.... Why am I angry???

I have to agree,... My son who sneers @ comics can follow and join in convo on every mainstream hero or group. He opines that comic writers should be running out of ideas since in his opinion it's all been done.
The main diff in my view between current events and comics - comics are more "static,.. they change slower than who's in office,... Clark Kent was here last century,...

Why Penny Pincer - Tech gear:
In Gold Digger everyone who uses tech appears to have areas of expertise. Currently Penny claims the Beta tech that was rediscovered and has combined it with her longstanding , Ballistic, Energy, and engineering technologies.

Where Brianna does weapons, and Gina does Computers, Artificial intelligence and Mecha, I like Penny because her interests are broader.
She designs and builds craft of all sorts depending on what she needs,..
She has Jets, Hovercraft, Hover carriers, Minisubs, cars, A STARSHIP, -  She has weapons from her caster bow which now with beta tech can do damage from small arms fire to damaging large amounts of real estate To Tacheon rail gun tech that even though she hasn't used it - could damage planets. - She has forcefield tech  that allows here to form "hardlight constructs " that can look act and FEEL like whatever she wants with the associated "shield tech" TO  allow FTL travel and defense on a large scale.

All Built as needed.

Far from a "Betty Sue" Penny  is more like Like a lazy overachiever,... developing tech as she needs it in the pursuit of whatever interests her.

For example: The Starship was the result of an immediate need to go after Stry yp 'Gia  who had taken the Starship City "El Dorado" on an 500 light year trip back to his home planet to defend it from an invasion.  This starship was put together after Penny LOOKED @ the building sized FTL engines  on El Dorado, and built better,.. reducing the size to something the size of a Bible and increasing the power and efficiency  to do 500 light years in little more than two hours, (El Dorado left weeks earlier and Penny's ship arrived almost immediately after them.)

My next post will probably be on her physical and emotional attributes.

I was asked by a GoldDigger fan why I considered Penny Pincer as one of my favorite characters  in the GoldDigger Universe.
He of course was a Brittany the Were-Cheeta fan, And was obsessing about everything Brit.

He couldn't see it about Penny. She doesn't have Super Powers, She is not the title character of the series, she has been in less than half the books.  Here I'll try to explain.

Primary reason : Character development.  From the begining she has changed the most - she has reacted to events in the series and shifted/changed in response to them.
When she started she was a B. (ryhmes with Switch). It didn't appear to bother her that pushing a competitor our of the way might send them over a cliff or into a trap,  She sold silver ammunition to people who might want to kill a were-cheeta,.. and was happy to use the threat of a grisely death as leverage to make Gina Diggers give way.

And the "Wedgie Wars" were fun to read.

Then she met Kevin Koss and started to change. Still a *ahem* Witch,.. she was no longer a bloodthirsty wench. As a side story Gold Digger showcased a budding romance where Penny would Push and push,.. and Ace would just calmly redirect her energy toward more positive things.
When Charlotte came on the scene,.. the wench no longer bloodthirsty saw her as a point in her favor - Where Gina had her sister to protect her, Penny would train and use Charlotte for the same thing.
She THEN grew a little and showed a softer side in realizing that Charlotte was still a child and even though she had her trained by Brittany, she also adopted her and started raising her.   When she did THAT and Buried the Hatchet with the Digger Sisters - Ending the Feud, she became the kind of person I enjoy reading about,..

She had me in concrete when she Built Ace that Nuke powered Jet Engine,... then used it to shoot down a flying fortress  that would've killed Kevin.

All this going on alongside the Main thrust of the book and she became so interesting to me that every story with her in it was a bonus. As the issues went to color and Penny now worked alongside Gina on the big projects,... And still did her own think with Kevin and Charlotte,.. I spent more and more time reading the back issues to chart the changes.

Currently the ONLY character flaw she has left is her jelousy whenever Gina and Kevin get too close,.. and that is understandable  considering how boy crazy Gina was at the start of the series.

On my next post,.. I'll get into her tech,...

Hmmmn,... Wings are too small.

I hope they only "flap" when he's going somewhere,... if he's hovering the Nth metal should be still with the wings configured for station keeping.

Meh,... I regret less and less not following Smallville too closely.
