The only problem I had with this issue is it felt like Slott was having a little too much fun with the 2099 slang. "jammit", "son of a glitch", and "shocking" being in what felt like every other line of 2099 dialogue started to rub me a little raw. Maybe it's an odd thing to complain about, but all things in moderation. Including future slang.
Can't believe people like this pile. I'm not even raging over the fact that he is a twilight pretty boy. What upsets me is how BLAND he is! the author wanted to make sure he wasn't a hypermasculine caricature, and she succeeded. Now he is a parody on the entire "badass" character archetype. He has a, terrible, running monologue, smiles inappropriately at the thought of how "badass" he's about to be, is totally unfeeling, and about as intimidating as he looks. I get that he's supposed to be "feared", but cannon fodder character's crapping their pants doesn't make him scary. The authors attempt to make him the cold, aloof loner only succeed in making him an unlikeable prat. He's as wooden as the casket DC is currently nailing themselves into . Boo.
You realize his entire point was originally to be a parody of the 'badass' character type, right? It's just what the cliche badass was in the late 80s/early 90s and what it is now are totally different animals.
Well, now that we know you were absolutely spot-on (great work, there, and good work on DC's part planting all the hints in a coherent enough way that it could be pieced together.), we can start theorizing on who their prisoner is, hahahaha.
I'm almost half sorta hoping for Earth 3 Joker. Or Jokester, or whatever they'd call him in the N52.
Does anyone else agree with me that the Earth 2 Batman and Superman are far more interesting and likeable then there New Earth counterparts.
Most definitely. They're older, more level headed, more pre-new-52-ish versions of Bats and Supes. I love the moment of them shutting their younger selves up because 'the grownups are talking'. Plus, I really dig Earth 2 Batman's costume, and have since DCnU's Earth 2 was first revealed.
Double posting makes me feel like a total scumbag, just to make that clear.
Eventually I'm going to start writing what all this art has to do with, but my own writing, much like my own art, keeps being not-quite-there as far as my personal standards go. Still, here's these. They're the first two in a set that will probably be of about five or six.
I also wasn't sure what was going on with the graves in the end. Are they two empty graves that are supposed to be intimidating? Was one of them Damian's grave? Is it Thomas and Martha's graves? Didn't do a great job establishing that.
Honestly, this whole ending sort of fell flat to me, epilogue excluded.
I think it was Damains and Talias bc the graves were unmarked which Gordon asked about them earlier in the issue.
I had that consideration a while after I posted my initial comment, and yeah, it makes sense. Ra's is harvesting Lazarus blood, so it would make sense for him to grave rob Talia and Damian with the intent of bringing them back from the dead. Maybe he intends to use Damian to lead the Sons of Batman. Too bad Grant sort of just left that wide open.
