Characters who suffer from bad writing

Characters who writers have made a joke out of, usually through bad writing

List items

  • Unfortunately his showings don't live up to his name. He jobbers too often.

  • Once the biggest, meanest monster around, though he managed to kill the Hulk during their first fight, every single confrontation afterwards led to a more and more humiliating loss. Abomination has been used for nothing more than such big shot ready to be beaten up by even She Hulk. A final death at the hands of Red Hulk sealed the deal.

  • While I understand his losses to Earth's heroes due to plot, I sometimes don't understand his defeat at the hands of certain characters or having difficulty with them. Thanos has been known to frequently mangle with him like a toy, Franklin Richards made him his b!tch and the Celestials proved too much of a challenge.

  • He is really underutilized as a villain. With a fearful name, you'd expect a better portrayal of him plus a much more crucial role in the outcome of events but sadly he gets cast aside by writers who don't know what to do with him.

  • Some of his stories are good and some are just plain bad. Thor is really underutilized as a powerhouse and as a result tends to be thought of as weak. He is also written to have difficulties against mere criminals and at times loses fights he shouldn't lose to. Thor spends too much time on Earth.

  • In his early days, he has had good showings and bad showings. Some to justify him as a measuring stick, others just for mockery.

  • Hercules isn't being used properly if at all these days. He's a demi-god for heaven sakes but receives treatment like a regular brute.

  • When he first came out, he was all hype. Later on Marvel writers used him when they saw fit having beat certain characters and also lose to certain characters. They also had him killed off by begging it before being brought back to life again inconsistently.

  • Though he is a Herald of Galactus, writers make him suck at his job. Prior to his service to the Devourer of Planets, he was a ruthless tyrant who conquered world after world. That's how he should be.

  • It's pretty obvious Rhino receives bad treatment from writers. This guy is suppose to give Hulk trouble yet he receives trouble himself from Spiderman and even Captain America.

  • This guy is suppose to be DC's equivalent of the Living Tribunal, yet he suffers from some of the worst showings ever. If wasn't enough that he struggles with lesser beings, he gets kicked in the face by Batman. Unfortunately Batman doesn't get respect for that and Spectre loses respect, resulting in a loss for both characters.

  • Billy Batson isn't being used properly as a powerhouse. He's suppose to be Superman's equal but magical however his showings indicate otherwise.

  • While Flash has plenty of great showings, he is rarely taken seriously especially when he gets tagged by seemingly normal people.

  • Before the New 52 reboot, Aquaman was never taken serious by anyone, including his writers.

  • Once he was Wolverine's greatest rival. Nowadays he gets treated as nothing more than a common thug who jobbers too much.

  • For someone who is suppose to be the Champion of the Universe, he's not "really" a champion considering his losses to weaker and less skilled opponents.

  • Ever since his debut, Red Hulk has been treated as a punching bag for nearly everyone he has beaten up.

  • He has the power and he has the jobber aura. So many times he has been outsmarted by beings such as Black Panther, Silver Surfer, Dr Doom, Thanos its just getting embarrassing.

  • Since the New 52 reboot, Hal Jordan has been an absolute disgrace in terms of combat prowess. His debut with the Justice League had him as a punching bag who boasts too much about his power without actually having the power. He has long way to go and still doesn't seem to be improving at all.

  • When you're a Herald of Galactus, Spiderman shouldn't be humiliating you. The problem is Firelord never got his chance to redeem himself.

  • Notorious for suffering at the hands of bad writing, there is no one else who fits that description more than the Lord of Apokolips or as Viners have come to call him Jobberseid. Darkseid is burdened by a heavy reputation that needs constant protection, refurbishing and a persistent reminder to everyone who he truly is. Jack Kirby created a trademark villain who makes regular bad guys look petty in comparison to ambitions. With the appearance, the power and the mindset, this was the one true Darkseid. His Pre-Crisis showings were some of the best the New God has ever had but over time, Post-Crisis reboots, neglect and Kirby's later lack of supervision turned the once feared God of Evil into a joke to be laughed at. Losing fights to less powerful beings in embarrassing ways, Omega Beams failing to do what they are supposed to do and falling down the stairs are just examples of the stupidity writers have left upon him as a legacy.

  • Ever since his Pre-Crisis days ended, Mongul has been nothing than a simple brute who talks trash. His showings have mostly been poor, losing fights where he shouldn't and eventually suffering a sad and humiliating death never to be seen again.
