I know this is an old thread, but I saw no reason to post a new one when the topic had already been discussed. I like his "traditional" look, but like others have said I would like it if he would ditch the underwear. It looks ridiculous even when the rest of the outfit is wonderful and imposing. I don't know why, but I most like it when his helmet hides his face and his cape is prodigious - like his AoA look.

For a short time the Ultimate Magneto's costume looked very similar to AoA's, and I found myself impressed with that look all the same.

Once some people snap and can no longer take care of themselves or the will to live programming in the brain is damaged for whatever reasons, these people driven insane will not be able to live longer anymore and these are the real mentally ill. People can be driven mentally ill by genetic reasons or nutritional deficiencies such as vitamin b12 deficiency, some are caused by painful tragedies, many cases are caused by poverty which is quite rampant in these dark ages. Since the majority share the irrational desire to live, suicidal ones are usually diagnosed as mentally ill. None of the batman villains are mentally ill and they are just weird and evil. Those lacking in social skills traced to genes are also usually labelled sick since we are a social species altho these solitary ones might actually live well if they can manage to live alone somewhere since most species are quite solitary, practice no ethics at all, just eat whatever and have no neighbors to worry about.

Why is the desire to live irrational?

Crane could be a top notch big time villain if the writers gave him a chance and some real thought. Truth be told, any character can be made into a big time or bottom tier hero/villain. The Riddler, Two-Face, Hugo Strange and The Joker are some of my top favorite Bat-villains, and Scarecrow is right up there with them. When he's given a good costume, played real creepy and uses more psychology instead of just spraying fear toxin everywhere, he can be real effective.

This is the problem with comic book villains. (or villains in any fiction really)

funny this thread was made because I was just having this thought, because I was playing Marvel TCG videogame and there's a group of villains apparently called Masters of Evil. Somehow I doubt they do anything really evil (at least not with being stopped in the nick of time). Villains can't be controversial, they have to be comic book bad. They have to rob a bank, take over the world, or unsuccessfully attempt to blow up something that contains people. (such as the world) Stuff like that. They will make children cry but never by harming them, instead by stealing their report card, or stealing candy.

But then again it's not necessarily a bad thing because despicable of villains are less interesting probably since they are no longer identifiable. If the villain was that evil the story becomes more about simply whether the hero can stop the villain. Writing this made me almost understand why rape Joker is opposed.. aside from one thing. Joker is evil and I will never identify with him, and I don't want to read anything with the Joker in it.

I have never identified with The Joker and yet he is one of my all-time favorite villains. Maybe I'm just an anomaly in the statistics, but I've been fascinated by villains that I don't identify at all with.

Everyone is irrational but not everyone has mental illness. Joker does not have mental illness but both Joker and Batman are irrational and both are also fanatical.

I can at least agree with this part to some extent. Out of curiosity, do you think villains like Two-Face, Riddler, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy and others are mentally ill or "just irrational"?

Joker's capable, but it's just not something that crosses his mind much in my opinion. I don't believe he raped Barbara either.

Joker doesn't love her. He's shot her at point blank range, launched her in a rocket and numerous other things, and very often puts Batman top on his list of priorities above her. Joker finds her amusing and sometimes even fun. She's a very convenient tool and plaything when she's going all gaga for Mistah J.

@colonyofcells: So everyone and everything is mad one way or the other? You ironically sound just as crazy as Joker.

Joker gets a lot of time in the limelight, so I can understand the animosity some may feel for the character. I'm not sick of him and probably never will be, but I would love to see other villains get more opportunities to shine.
